Looks like our Myth Busters were put to the test this week! 👀

✅ FACT!
Black & gray tattoos and color tattoos can age differently over time.

Black and gray tattoos are created using varying shades of black ink, often referred to as **gray wash**. As these tattoos age, they typically soften into lighter shades of gray while maintaining much of their contrast and detail.

Color tattoos, on the other hand, contain multiple pigment colors. Some colors may fade or lose vibrancy faster than others, especially when exposed to UV rays from the sun. Lighter colors can sometimes require touch-ups sooner than darker pigments.

Of course, ink color is only one piece of the puzzle. Tattoo longevity can also be influenced by factors such as:
• Sun exposure ☀️
• Placement on the body 📍
• Skin type 🖐️
• Lifestyle and activity level 🚴
• Aftercare and long-term skin care 🧴
• Overall health and aging of the skin

There are many factors that can influence how a tattoo ages, which is why every tattoo can settle and evolve a little differently over time.

🏆 Well… this is pretty surreal. We did it again! 🏆

On a day dedicated to celebrating tattoo culture and the artists who make it possible, we're incredibly honored to share some exciting news.

Odin's Mark Tattoo & Metaphysical Emporium has been recognized as a Top 10 Tattoo & Piercing Shop in Iowa for 2026, making this our second year in a row receiving this honor.

As a small family-owned business, this recognition means more than we can put into words. Looking back on how far we've come makes this honor even more meaningful. From the long hours, sacrifices, and lessons learned to the laughter, friendships, and unforgettable memories made along the way, this journey has helped shape not only our business but our family as well.

Through every challenge and every milestone, our mission has remained the same: to create meaningful artwork, provide a safe and welcoming studio, and make every person who walks through our doors feel like part of the Odin's Mark family.
