Hemi Help!
Sometimes the scapula gets kinda sticky when it hasn't been moving much.
Getting the scapula gliding can help decrease pain and help improve reach for functional activities and task specific training.
And sidelying can be a really nice position to get to the scapula easily!

{Never mind my heavy breathing from walking the Iz 🐕‍🦺 😆}.

One of my mentors was a PT and he gave me this challenge. I've never looked back. I don't ALWAYS get a person out of their chair but I at least try to to get their feet on the ground and backs off the backrest whenever I can.

This strategy has been a life saver. When I'm working with someone who is highly distractible or hyperverbose, I can feel my own brain having a hard time focusing!
I find being super clear and communicative about the client-centered goals for a session helps us all start focused. Writing them down one at a time is even more helpful.
And taking mental breaks helps meet our patients where they (and their 🧠 s) are! Just like physical breaks. We aren't "doing nothing," we're teaching attention strategies through therapeutic breaks.
What are your strategies for helping folks (including yourself! 😅) stay focused during a session?
