Made homemade sourdough pizza today. Well technically I made the dough a few days ago and froze it. But this is absolutely delicious! Ham & pepperoni on one and pepperoni & sausage on the other.

I'm still feeling like garbage so laying on the couch watching cheesy Hallmark movies. I think Max is judging me...I just don't think she's a fan of sappy, predictable movies 😂

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in February of 2023. We found it after I found a lump in my right breast just after Christmas 2022. I then had a mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy on Valentines Day of 2023. Two days later, it was confirmed that I had cancer. Two kinds actually; Ductal Carcinoma in Situ (DCIS) and Invasive Ductal Carcinoma (IDC). We found out that it was stage 1b.

I then had a surgery to remove the tumor. Unfortunately, we didn't get clear margins so I went back in for a 2nd lumpectomy and reconstruction. We then found out that surgery and radiation wouldn't be enough, I would need chemo too.

We found out that the tumor was a grade 3 tumor and was considered fast growing and aggressive. This was the reason for the chemo. Its also known to spread quickly. Thank God, the cancer never made it to my lymph nodes.

I then underwent 4 rounds of chemo with 2 separate chemo meds each round. And 20 rounds of localized radiation. I lost all of my hair and was so sick throughout the treatments. It truly changed my body permanently.

People think that once the treatment is over, you can go back to normal. What people don't realize is, chemo changes your brain permanently. My memory is worse, my brain fog is worse, even my fibromyalgia is worse.

I'm thankful for being cancer free but I always worry it'll come back. I think all cancer survivors worry about that to a degree.

Why am I sharing this? To remind you to do your self-checks, get your mammograms and be diligent. Breast cancer can happen to anyone at any age.

Probably won't have much content for a few days. At least not video content anyway. I woke up with a fever and sore throat. It hurts so much to talk right now.

How was your weekend? Andrew and I just mostly sat around and watched scary movies. Saturday we binge watched the new Carrie on Amazon. Then yesterday a couple of horror movies.

Today, I plan on laying on the couch and watching cheesy Hallmark movies, Harry Potter or Supernatural. Not sure which option yet but HP and SPN are my comfort movies/show 🤷‍♀️

Have a wonderful day!

🎙️Episode 6 of The Auburn Conversations is here

🧡 “The world is absolutely a better place with you in it.”

In the latest episode of The Auburn Conversations, I'm joined by wellness coach Heather from Walking With Heather.

Heather was born with a congenital heart defect and wasn't expected to survive to her first birthday.

She recently turned 42.

In between those two points is an extraordinary story.

Four open-heart surgeries before the age of 17. Breast cancer at 38. Chemotherapy, radiation and surgery. Fibromyalgia. Chronic pain. Medical trauma. Depression and anxiety.

We talk very openly about the reality of living with an invisible illness, including something I think many people will recognise - putting on a brave face while you're falling apart inside.

Heather also shares an experience she had during heart surgery at 16.

She remembers watching the surgery and feeling a peaceful presence beside her.

And then hearing:

🧡 “It is not your time, I have a greater purpose for you.”

Today, Heather is beginning to live that purpose.

She's become a wellness coach, advocate and podcast host, using her own experiences to walk alongside people living with chronic illness and invisible disabilities.

And I love the way she describes her approach:

“I am walking beside you.”

This is a very personal conversation about illness, trauma, faith, family, chronic pain, survival and finding purpose in the life you've been given.
