This page, this brand, this adventure — this whole passion project — is my story… and it’s yours, too. A place for anyone who has carried more than they should. A place for anyone who has survived more than people know. A place for anyone who is ready to choose themselves again. A space for every soul rising from hard chapters, reclaiming their life, healing their heart, and becoming their own mag

ic. I have a vision for what this community will grow into — a space of safety, creativity, expression, and contributions from voices that have been silent for too long. I’m building it as I go. And I hope you’ll walk this journey with me.

Before May closes out, I want to say thank you.

To the three artists we featured this month — my mom Bobbi K Samples Art, Rochelle Vega Shawn Crump - thank you.

Thank you for overcoming the self-doubt, again. For becoming vulnerable, again.

Because when you share your art, you're not just sharing a piece you put on canvas, paper, jewelry, furniture - you're sharing a little bit of your soul. A little bit of your voice. We see it all in the work itself. The art always tells on you - in the best way.

That kind of courage is the whole point of what we're doing here. Slowing down. Looking up. Making the thing anyway.

To everyone else - if something they made stopped you in your tracks this month — go tell them. Go follow them. Go buy something. Go just say "I see you."

Links to the two visual artists, their bodies of work, and how to reach them are in the comments below. When Shawn's book is published, we will be the first to announce it! There will also always be a link to all 3 in the Quiet Favorites section on the BYOM website.

Bobbi K Samples Art, Rochelle Vega, Shawn Crump — I'm so grateful. Thank you for trusting me with your magic. 🖤

A 3-Minute Reset

For when you're carrying more than you want to admit.
You don't need to fix anything before you start.
You don't need the right mood.
You don't even need to feel hopeful.
You just need three minutes……..

May is almost done.

The flowers are still blooming. The race is run. The artists are still making things in their studios and kitchens and garages and wherever it is that people go to make something true.

And you're still here.

That matters more than you know.

June is coming. We're going to do something a little different — I'll tell you more next week.

But for now: thank you for this month. For slowing down with me. For looking up.

Be your own magic. 🖤

We all do this a little differently. Let me give you some options, cause depending on who you are and where you are, there are a few ways to say the same thing:

🧘 The Healer:
"Some chapters are over. My nervous system just hasn't received the memo yet."

☕ The Exhausted One:
"My nervous system would like to unsubscribe from events that occurred three business years ago."

😏 The Sarcastic One:
"I'd like to formally return several memories to sender."

🎖️ The Veteran:
"Conducting a tactical withdrawal from situations that ended years ago."

🧠 The Self-Aware One:
"My nervous system has been carrying expired emergency alerts for far too long."

❤️ The One Learning to Let Go:
"Survival mode was necessary then. It doesn't have to be permanent now."

Whatever version speaks to you today, may your mind, body, and spirit remember:

You survived it.

You don't have to keep living there.

As for me, the retired Army girl, I'm going with:

"Time for my nervous system to stop pulling security on abandoned FOBs. This s**t happened years ago. Mission complete. F off."

Who’s with me?!?!
Big release!👋🖤

Art heals. Not in a metaphor way. In an actual, measurable, something-shifts-in-your-chest way.

When you make something — or even just sit with something someone else made — your nervous system slows down. Your breathing changes. The part of your brain that's been spinning all day finally has somewhere else to go.

That's not woo crap. That's biology.

This month I've been featuring artists — my mom Bobbi K Samples Art, Rochelle Vega, Shawn Crump — people who pick up a brush or a camera or a needle and thread, or a pen and paper, and make something out of nothing, or out of their own stories.

And every single one of them, when I asked, told me some version of the same thing:

*I make things because it's the only way I know how to process being alive.*

That's healing. Quiet, ordinary, unglamorous healing.

The kind that doesn't announce itself.

You don't have to be an artist to get the medicine. You just have to be willing to look. To really look. To let something land.

What piece of art — any kind, any medium — has actually healed something in you?

We're almost at the end of May.

A month of slowing down. Of noticing. Of looking at flowers and racing and art and the voice that says *don't* — and doing it anyway.

Here's what I want to leave you with:

You don't have to be moving fast to be going somewhere.

You don't have to be loud to be making something.

You don't have to have it figured out to show up.

May taught me that. Again.

What has May taught you?

Last one from my mom's collection this month.

This one is called Venice. I always wanted to go there. She did. Then she painted it. Then she made a bomber jacket out of it (I'm wearing it in this picture).

Mom — thank you for making things. For never needing permission. For showing me what that looks like. 🌸. Bobbi K Samples Art
