We previously mentioned the upcoming PTSD Awareness Walk, and this morning, the Marion County Board of County Commissioners took the awareness initiative a step further by proclaiming June 27th as PTSD Awareness Day. As committee members, we were honored to stand alongside the dedicated men and women leading this important cause.

🇺🇸 Saturday, June 27, 2026 is National PTSD Awareness Day 🇺🇸

Join us at the McPherson Complex at 8:00 AM for a 2.2-mile awareness walk featuring mental health resources to help raise consciousness about the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).

This event supports local resources available to those affected by PTSD.

To support the cause, Marion County is selling quality dry-fit t-shirts for $26–$30, with proceeds benefiting local organizations that help our Hometown Heroes living with PTSD.

Neuroscientists found that taking 15-minute “awe walks” where you intentionally look at vast, beautiful things with “childlike wonder” completely shifts your brain chemistry.

The study showed that experiencing awe creates a “small self” effect. Basically when you look at something majestic (like, say … a castle at the end of Main Street), your brain physically shrinks your worries in proportion to the magic around you! 🏰✨
