Band-and-loop space maintainer! 🦷😁🦷

I've made quite a few space maintainers over the years, and it never ceases to amaze me that the molar bands, which seem so harsh and stiff when I'm working with them in the lab, will slip easily and (usually) painlessly onto pediatric teeth, thanks to how adaptive their gums are. Brian@TDL

Finished complete maxillary denture, mandibular implant-retained removable overdenture.

The patient wanted to keep the existing malocclusion of the lower anterior teeth, so we replicated it in the try-in (to confirm esthetics) and final prosthesis. I appreciate that small details like this can help a patient keep their natural smile even while transitioning into a (new) set of dentures. Brian@TDL

Progress pics: a special set up for a special denture.

We characterized the lower anterior teeth to match the preexisting malalignment. In setting teeth, I do appreciate the small artistic touches like this. It can be harder to set teeth in functional and balanced malalignment (and have them look natural and beautiful) than it can be to set them by the book. Fun case!

Beautiful maxillary RPD for a P/P case, with a SLM printed CoCr framework for an ideal fit and superior durability.

We (ahem, .scroggins ) designed the RPD framework with a U-shaped or horseshoe palatal connector and clasps on all the remaining natural dentition, specifically, an Akers clasp at teeth 3-4 and a hand-bent wrought wire clasp at tooth 11. The WW clasp gave us the most flexibility with regards to adjustments and design, so we could shape it to be very retentive but highly esthetic (i.e., minimal visibility) while also keeping its flexibility, so the clinician can make final adjustments at seating for a perfect fit. This was a great case for a lovely and very skilled local general practice dentist who hasn't done a new denture for a patient in quite some time. Thanks to great communication between the office and the lab, the final denture was a perfect fit with the exact look the patient wanted. Brian@TDL

Today I had the privilege of talking to the kindergarters at my old elementary school today as part of their Career Discovery Week!

I brought a bunch of sample dentures and dental models for them to examine and touch, and showed off some tools of the trade. It was so great to highlight my trade, dental technology, as a career option and talk about everything that goes into the behind-the-scenes laboratory side of dental restorations. Brian@TDL

Two new SLM CoCr frameworks heading out for try-in and jaw relations appointments. When finished, these will make for some nice, durable upper partial dentures for these two patients.

The two frameworks are also a nice contrast of options for RPD designs, with different major connectors (Anterior-Posterior or A-P strap vs horseshoe) and clasps (cast circumferential clasps and wrought wire modified I-bar clasp vs. Akers clasp). Brian@TDL
