What happens when the brain’s messages struggle to reach the body?
Our brain and body communicate through nerves, which carry messages that help us see, move, feel, and maintain balance.
In Multiple Sclerosis (MS), the immune system mistakenly attacks myelin — the protective covering around nerve fibres. This damage can disrupt the messages travelling between the brain and the body.
💡 What can this mean for someone living with MS?
Symptoms may include:
👁️ Vision problems
🤚 Numbness or tingling
💪 Muscle weakness or stiffness
😴 Extreme tiredness (fatigue)
🚶 Difficulty walking or maintaining balance
🧠 Problems with memory or concentration
MS affects everyone differently. Some symptoms may be invisible to others, and symptoms like these can also occur with many other conditions. They do not automatically mean someone has MS.
🩺 If you experience new, persistent, or concerning symptoms, seek advice from a healthcare professional. Diagnosis requires proper medical assessment.
Although there is currently no cure for MS, treatments can help manage symptoms, reduce relapses, and slow disease activity.
