💙 Men's Mental Health Matters 💙

Mental health is just as important as physical health, yet many men continue to suffer in silence.

This Men's Mental Health Awareness Month, let's help break the stigma by encouraging open conversations, sharing resources, and creating safe spaces where men feel supported and heard.

A simple check-in can make a powerful difference. Ask a friend, family member, coworker, or loved one: "How are you really doing?"

Together, we can build a culture where seeking help is seen as strength and no one feels alone.

For additional information and resources, visit NAMI’s Men’s Mental Health page at NAMI.org/mensmentalhealth.

As Mental Health Awareness Month comes to a close, we want to leave you with this…. IT’S OKAY TO NOT BE OKAY!

Remember UMMC has resources available to all staff, students and faculty! The RISE Peer Support team is here to support you! I want to thank my peer support volunteers for joining our resource tabling event and joining the fight in breaking barriers to support seeking and spreading the word about Mental Health!

One more thing! Wellness isn’t something you achieve in one day! You have to practice daily. So choose one small activity to incorporate into your daily routine and stick with it!

You got this 💚✅ Small moments of rest, connection, movement, boundaries, gratitude, and self-compassion are a few examples that can lead you on your road to wellness!

This week, give yourself permission to:
✨ Pause without guilt
✨ Ask for support when needed
✨ Celebrate progress over perfection
✨ Protect your peace
✨ Care for your mind the same way you care for your body

Mental health matters every month of the year. Thank you for taking steps toward well-being, for yourself and for those around you.

TODAY at 12! CE credit available!

Join Dr. Thy Huynh, MD, for Wellness in the Sun, an engaging continuing education session focused on staying safe and healthy while enjoying time outdoors. Participants will learn about the health risks associated with excessive sun exposure, explore practical sun safety strategies such as sunscreen use, protective clothing, and seeking shade, and gain hands-on guidance for properly applying and reapplying sunscreen during outdoor activities. This session is designed to help attendees make informed choices that support long-term skin health and overall well-being.

All employees and students are invited to attend. CE credit is available for physicians, dental professionals, nurse practitioners, nurses, and social workers.

💙 Self-Compassion Starts With You 💙

This week, the Office of Well-Being encourages you to practice self-compassion, treating yourself with the same kindness, patience, and understanding you would offer to someone you care about.

✨ Take a moment to:
• Pause negative self-talk
• Acknowledge your efforts, not just outcomes
• Give yourself permission to rest
• Remember that being human means not being perfect

🌿 You deserve the same care you so freely give to others.

🌿 Mental Health Awareness Month | Day 2 Post🌿

Anxiety can make our thoughts feel overwhelming and absolute, but cognitive defusion reminds us that thoughts are not facts. By creating space between ourselves and anxious thinking, we can reduce its power and respond with greater calm and clarity.

Try this simple shift today:
➡️ Instead of saying, “I’m going to fail.”
💭 Try saying, “I’m having the thought that I’m going to fail.”

This small change can help you observe your thoughts rather than become consumed by them.

Take a breath. Refocus on the present moment. You are more than your thoughts. 💚

As nurses week comes to a close, the Office of Well-being thanks all of our nurses for being the calm, comfort, and care people remember most. We are leaving you with a story about when a nurse becomes the patient family. Listen here for a story from Alice Chaney Herndon.
