Florida PGX Consulting, LLC Discover how you will respond to medications before you take them!

Most people think serotonin syndrome only happens from taking “too much medication.”

The truth? It can happen from the combination of prescription medications, supplements, and even your genetics.

If you’re taking an SSRI or SNRI and adding supplements like St. John’s wort, saffron, or ashwagandha, your risk may be different than someone else’s. Your body’s ability to process medications is influenced by your pharmacogenomics (PGx), which can affect how quickly medications are metabolized and how they interact.

Symptoms like:
• Agitation or restlessness
• Rapid heart rate
• Excessive sweating
• Tremors or muscle twitching
• Confusion
• Diarrhea
• Fever

…should never be ignored, especially after starting or combining new medications or supplements.

As a PGx Pharmacist, I believe the goal isn’t to scare you away from treatment—it’s to help you understand how your genetics, medications, and supplements work together so you can make informed decisions with your healthcare provider.

Knowledge is one of the most powerful tools for preventing avoidable adverse drug reactions.

Share this with someone who takes medication and supplements. They may not realize the combination matters.

This content is for educational purposes only and should not replace medical advice. Never stop or change your medications without consulting your healthcare provider.

🎙️ New Episode Alert: Precision in Practice . Real Stories, Real Results in Integrative Psychiatry

Episode Five of The Precision Medicine Pharmacist as series in collaboration with the Pharmacy Podcast Network is now live.

In this conversation, I’m joined again by Saba Arshad, alongside Afshan Khan, to explore what collaborative, integrative psychiatry looks like in real-world patient care.

In Part One, we discussed the foundation of pharmacist–physician collaboration in precision psychiatry, building trust, aligning perspectives, and creating a more personalized approach to treatment.
This episode takes that collaboration a step further.

Together, we discuss:
✔️ How interdisciplinary collaboration supports complex psychiatric care
✔️ What shared decision-making looks like in practice
✔️ Real patient cases and clinical insights
✔️ The role of integrative medicine in treating the whole patient — beyond symptoms alone
✔️ How evolving partnerships can improve patient outcomes
One of the most rewarding parts of this discussion is hearing how different clinical perspectives can come together to create more individualized, compassionate care for patients navigating mental health challenges.

If Episode One introduced the framework, Episode Two brings it to life through real stories and real clinical experiences.

Parents and pediatricians face immense challenges getting timely, quality care for children. Long waits for specialists and difficulty accessing mental health support lead to delays and trial-and-error treatment. Better access and information are crucial for early management.

Some days I’m a pharmacist deep in pharmacogenomic testing.

Some days I’m reviewing medications and supplements.
Most days I’m also a boy mom, balancing family, work, and a whole lot of heart.

This illustration captures exactly why Florida PGX Consulting, LLC exists. I believe personalized medicine should feel human, not overwhelming. Pharmacogenomics helps us understand how your genetics influence medication response so we can reduce trial-and-error and create smarter, safer care plans.

As a precision medicine pharmacist, my role is to connect the science with real life — helping patients feel heard, supported, and confident in their health decisions. Whether it’s PGx testing, medication optimization, or supplement guidance, everything I do is rooted in clarity, education, and care for the whole person.

This isn’t just my work. It’s my purpose — and my family is always part of the why behind it.
