Some African crocodiles climb trees to rest and observe their surroundings. 🐾👀
In parts of Africa, certain crocodiles have been observed climbing low tree branches near riverbanks. They pull themselves up carefully and settle above the ground or water, often staying completely still while resting in the warmth of the sun.
Researchers believe this behavior helps them regulate body temperature and gain a wider view of their surroundings. From these elevated spots, crocodiles can monitor movement below, including potential pr*y, while also staying safer from disturbances at ground level.
Most of these climbers are smaller or younger crocodiles, and they usually remain close to water or low branches. While the sight may seem unusual, it highlights how adaptable wildlife can be, reminding observers to stay aware not just of the water, but the environment around it.
