27 years married. ❤️
And if I had to boil down what has kept us not just married, but genuinely happy together, it would be this:
❤️ We make intimacy a priority.
Date nights. Romantic getaways. Time alone together. We’ve always tried to protect the part of our relationship where we are lovers — not just two people managing a household and a life.
❤️ We make each other feel appreciated and safe.
We tell each other how much we appreciate one another — often. Because after decades together, it’s very easy to think, “Oh, he knows.” Say it anyway.
❤️ We’re honest about what we need.
Really honest. Even when it’s uncomfortable. Neither of us can read the other’s mind, and resentment has a funny way of growing in the space where communication should have been.
❤️ We still go the extra mile for each other. The little kindnesses. The thoughtful gestures. Doing something simply because you know it will make the other person happy. We’ve never wanted to become complacent about each other.
And perhaps the biggest lesson of all?
We don’t keep score.
Marriage isn’t 50/50 every single day. Sometimes it’s 80/20. Sometimes it’s 20/80. Life happens.
The point is that over 27 years, we have continued to choose each other — again and again.
Happy 27th anniversary to my gorgeous husband. ❤️
Here’s to continuing to date each other, laugh together, tell the truth, go the extra mile… and never, ever taking this love for granted.
If you’ve been happily married for a long time, what would YOU add to this list?
