Celebrating my beautiful friend Jess. 🤍
Every week I get to know this woman in one of my favorite ways — on roller skates — but there is so much depth behind the woman I skate beside.
Jess is an artist, a devoted single mama homeschooling and raising her autistic son, an advocate, and a woman who has taken pieces of her own story — adoption, identity, motherhood, generational pain and healing — and given them expression through powerful art.
In this piece, Jess shares something deeply personal about her experience as a Black woman — the history and generational wounds she carries, and the healing, survival, strength and becoming that live alongside them.
And now her work is being featured at the Black Girl Art Show in Los Angeles, alongside 100+ Black women artists.
Jess, I’m so proud to see your voice, your story and your work taking up space.
You are such a passionate, beautiful soul, and I feel lucky to call you my friend.
If you’re in LA September 13th, go celebrate this incredible woman and experience her work in person. ✨
