Did you know the way your baby’s tongue is positioned affects their entire latch? 👅

In this video, our occupational therapist is providing cheek support by gently placing fingers along baby’s cheeks to help guide the tongue to the correct position inside the mouth.

When the tongue is properly placed, baby can:
🍼 Form a better seal around the pacifier
🍼 Build the oral motor strength needed for feeding
🍼 Transfer those skills to the breast or bottle

Is your baby actually getting enough at the breast? A weighted feed can tell you. Baby is weighed before and after a breastfeeding session on the same scale, in a clean, dry diaper. The difference in grams = the milk transferred. 📊

Why does it matter?
Some babies work really hard at the breast but aren’t transferring efficiently, especially babies with low tone, tongue ties, prematurity, or weak suck patterns. They can seem content after a feed but still not be getting enough. A weighted feed helps us see what’s really happening.

💜 If you’re concerned about your baby’s feeding, reach out for a feeding evaluation at growingbyplay.com.

Tummy time is more than just strengthening. 💛 We love using the Happy Baby Tummy Time Book during tummy time to turn play into a learning moment! High-contrast images, mirrors, textures, and simple visuals can help capture your baby’s attention, encourage head lifting, support visual tracking, and build early engagement skills.

Try getting down on the floor with your little one, talking about what they see, making silly sounds, and following their lead. Even a few minutes of playful interaction can support development in big ways!

Breast pump terms can feel like a whole new language. 🧑‍🍼 The fl**ge is a small but important part of your pumping journey! Finding the right fl**ge size can make a big difference in both comfort and milk output. A proper fit helps make pumping more comfortable and effective for you.

The best “therapy tools” are already outside 🌿🤎 Playing in dirt isn’t just messy fun; it’s packed with opportunities for sensory exploration, tactile input, fine motor practice, and self-regulation. Digging, scooping, patting, and squishing help little bodies and brains learn through play in the most natural way.

Play doesn’t have to be complicated 💛 Simple, everyday activities can support your child’s development at every stage! The best play is often the simplest ⬇️

💜 0–6 months: Tummy time with toys
💜 6–12 months: Messy food play
💜 12–24 months: Pouring, stacking & climbing
