Botox, tox, neuromodulators, neurotoxins, what's the difference?? ⬇️
Neuromodulators and neurotoxins are broad terms for a toxin that affect the nervous system. There are many different types, some of which are produced by bacteria, plants, and animals. Botulinum toxin is a type of neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum.
Botox is a brand name for a specific product that contains botulinum toxin type A. Botox is a purified, filtered form of botulinum toxin that has been approved by the FDA for a variety of medical uses, including the treatment of wrinkles, chronic migraines, and muscle spasms. Botox is a brand name, just like Dysport, Jeuveau, and Xeomin. Each brand uses a slightly different formulation of botulinum toxin type A.
Botox, Jeuveau, and Dysport contain inactive ingredients like proteins alongside the botulinum toxin. Xeomin is called the "naked injectable" because it contains only the purified botulinum toxin type A, with no added proteins.
