Such a great photo. Really shows how the lens starts aging wayyyyy before patients are “cataract age”. Noticeable changes in the lens even at 25 years, and significant progression by age 50. I see this in the microscope everyday and it explains why so many patients feel like their vision started to decline in their 40s.

What if you didn't have to choose the same lens for both eyes? 👁️

When choosing a premium IOL, there's often a trade-off between range and visual quality.

🔹 Multifocal lenses like Envy and Odyssey can provide more near vision and greater spectacle independence, but may come with halos.

🔹 EDOF lenses like PureSee offer excellent distance and intermediate vision with very clean visual quality and minimal halos, but typically less near vision.

That's where **mix and match** comes in.

In the right patient, we can use the first eye as a "test drive." If you love it, we can repeat it in the second eye. If you want more near vision, we can consider a multifocal. If you want cleaner distance vision or fewer halos, an EDOF may be a better fit for the second eye.

It's another way to personalize cataract surgery around your vision—not just a lens package.

Will PureSee overtake Envy? 👁️

It's one of the most common questions I'm getting right now.

For years, Envy and other multifocal lenses have been the top choice for patients who want the best chance of seeing far and near without glasses.

Now, PureSee is changing the conversation.

✅ Cleaner, more natural vision
✅ Little to no halos
✅ Excellent distance and intermediate vision
📖 May still need readers for fine print

I'm seeing more and more patients choose visual quality over complete spectacle independence—and my early results with PureSee have been very encouraging.

The best lens isn't the same for everyone. My job is to help you choose the one that fits your eyes and your lifestyle.

What is a pterygium? 👁️

A pterygium is a non-cancerous growth that starts on the white part of the eye and can slowly grow onto the cornea.

Common risk factors include:
☀️ Sun exposure
💨 Wind and dust
🏜️ Dry environments

Most pterygia can simply be monitored, but surgery may be recommended if they:
✅ Continue growing
✅ Cause persistent irritation
✅ Create astigmatism or blurry vision
✅ Threaten the center of the cornea

Early evaluation helps determine the best treatment plan and protect your vision.

"Why can't I use my vision insurance?" 👓

It's one of the most common questions we get.

The simple answer:

👓 Vision insurance covers routine eye care, glasses, and contacts.

🏥 Medical insurance covers eye diseases like cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and diabetic eye disease.

Because cataracts are a medical condition, cataract surgery is billed through your medical insurance, not your vision plan.

Insurance can be confusing—but we're always happy to help explain your coverage before your visit.

Most people think reading glasses are only for books or phones.

But here's a better question...

Can you see the plate of food in front of you? 🍽️

With a standard monofocal lens, distance vision is excellent—but everyday tasks at arm's length gradually become blurry.

Think beyond reading:
🍳 Cooking
💻 Computer work
🚗 Your car's dashboard
🃏 Games and hobbies
👶 Seeing a grandchild in your lap

Choosing the right lens starts with understanding how you use your vision every day.

My early experience with the new PureSee lens has been impressive.

✅ Excellent distance vision
✅ Strong intermediate vision
✅ Some patients achieving 20/20 distance and J2 near vision
✅ Minimal to no halos compared with traditional multifocal lenses

While individual results always vary, PureSee appears to deliver on its goal of providing more visual range without many of the unwanted optical side effects.

It's still early, but this lens has the potential to become one of the most important premium IOL options available.

The most important question to ask your cataract surgeon:

"If I'm not happy with my vision, what can you do?"

Premium lens implants are highly successful, but no procedure is perfect. In the rare case that a premium lens isn't the right fit, an IOL exchange may be the best solution.

Fortunately, most patients never need one—but it's an important capability for a surgeon offering advanced lens technology.

The best surgeons don't just have a plan for when everything goes right—they're prepared for the uncommon situations too.

Seeing double? Here's a quick way to narrow it down. 👀 Double vision usually falls into one of two buckets: eye misalignment (strabismus) or a surface/focusing issue like dry eye. Try this — close one eye at a time. If the double vision disappears, it's likely an alignment issue. If it doesn't, dry eye treatment is usually the first step. Either way, it's worth getting evaluated.

Early results from the new PureSee IOL are fantastic! This lens offers great distance and mid range vision without the glare and haloes of a traditional multifocal. This patient is able to read just about everything in her life without glasses! She’s 20/20 in both eyes, and she can read j3, which is pretty small as shown in the second photo. I predict this lens will become more and more popular with patients who want freedom from glasses but are hesitant about the trade offs of multifocal lenses. Very impressed so far.
