Truth vs. Myth: You have to stop exercising if you feel pain.

MYTH. Pain is a signal worth respecting, but it doesn’t always mean you have to stop. Listen to your body and modify the exercise by adjusting the intensity, range of motion, or activity.

Safe, personalized movement can be an important part of cancer recovery and oncology rehabilitation.

Did you know, before New Wave Oncology Rehab, Maddie spent 2 years living in Florida for a little life reset. 🌴☀️

Sometimes a change of scenery is exactly what you need to figure out what’s next… and apparently, that included getting up close with an alligator!

Now she’s back at the Jersey Shore doing what she loves, helping people navigate life before, during, and after cancer treatment.

Managing lymphedema at home doesn’t have to feel overwhelming.

Small, consistent habits can make a difference:

•Move regularly
•Practice deep breathing
•Take care of your skin
•Wear compression as recommended
•Elevate when appropriate

Remember, lymphedema management is personalized. What works for one person may not be right for another.

Did you know, Maddie actually chose Occupational Therapy as a profession because her mom had a home daycare, where she grew up watching therapists come in to work with children receiving early intervention services.

That early exposure inspired her to become an Occupational Therapist but she eventually found herself in a completely different niche of OT with a focus on oncology rehabilitation and lymphedema therapy.

Shoulder feeling tight after cancer treatment? Try this.

Your shoulders don’t need to be forced.
They need gentle, intentional movement.

Try the ABCs of shoulder mobility:

🔤 A — Arms Up
Reach overhead as comfortably as you can.

🔤 B — Back & Open
Gently open your chest and shoulders.

🔤 C — Circles
Slowly circle your shoulders.

After surgery, radiation, or cancer treatment, changes in shoulder mobility can affect everyday activities.

Occupational therapy can help you safely improve movement, strength, and function.

Breast cancer is a well-known cause of lymphedema, but it’s not the only one.

Lymphedema can develop when a condition or treatment affects the normal drainage of the lymphatic system.

Swelling, heaviness, or tightness? Don’t ignore it.

Think you may have lymphedema? Send us a DM—we’re here to help.

Radiation fibrosis can happen months or even years after radiation treatment.

Tightness, stiffness, pain, swelling, and limited movement in the treated area can sometimes be signs of radiation fibrosis—and you don’t have to simply live with them.

Occupational therapy can help improve mobility, manage symptoms, and make everyday activities easier.

Experiencing changes after radiation? Contact New Wave Oncology Rehab to schedule an evaluation or learn how OT can help.
