Alzheimer's was never just a plaque problem.

For decades, research has focused largely on proteins like amyloid. But emerging science is revealing another critical piece of the story: inflammation.

The brain has its own immune system, orchestrated by specialized cells called microglia. When functioning properly, these cells protect the brain. But when chronically activated, they can fuel the inflammatory processes that contribute to neurodegeneration.

This changing understanding helps explain why brain health cannot be separated from the health of the body. Metabolism, sleep, exercise, diet, and the gut microbiome all influence the immune cells that help determine whether the brain remains resilient or vulnerable.
