🌿 SO MANY NEW FACES — SO LET US INTRODUCE OURSELVES!🌿

After our post this week, so many new people have followed our little apothecary, placed orders, shared our story, and encouraged us. We thought this was the perfect time to tell you a little more about who we are, what we do, and why Folk Medicine Farm Apothecary means so much to us.

First, I’m Hannah — owner, herbalist, maker, dreamer, and the person behind most of the crazy ideas around here. 😂

My husband, Adam, and I are high school sweethearts and have been together for almost 24 years. ❤️ We have one child, our absolute pride and joy, Addy.

Addy is a student at Troup High School, where she works with the varsity football and baseball programs as a student physical therapist. Her dream is to attend college, earn her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, and continue working in the world of football. 🏈 And if you spend much time around here, you'll quickly realize that when we aren't at the apothecary, there's a pretty good chance you'll find our family somewhere cheering on the Tigers!

And then there's Kyla Pike. 🌿

Calling Kyla my “herbal assistant” doesn't begin to cover it.

Kyla has been with me since DAY ONE — literally the day we got the keys to this shop, Kyla was there.

Like me, Kyla is a lifelong LaGrange girl. She is an active member of Faith Baptist Church, where she serves in many roles, and she's currently attending Grand Canyon University, majoring in Elementary Education with an emphasis in STEM.

In a couple of years, she'll graduate and head out into the big world to teach our local babies. ❤️ And one day, her dream is to move to Africa to teach and spread the Gospel.

Kyla is more than my assistant. She's my right hand, part of our family, and truly my other child. There is absolutely no way everything that happens inside these four walls could happen without my Kyla!

Together, Kyla and I ARE Folk Medicine Farm Apothecary.

When we say handmade, we mean it.
🌿 We formulate it.
🌿 We blend it.
🌿 We infuse it.
🌿 We pour it.
🌿 We bottle it.
🌿 We label it.
🌿 We pack your orders.

Every. Single. Thing.

There isn't a warehouse somewhere filling our shelves. There isn't a big manufacturing company behind us.

It's us.

And somewhere along the way, this little apothecary became about so much more than herbal medicine.

Having a physical shop right here in the heart of our community has allowed us to serve our hometown in ways we never imagined.

We've hosted herbal classes and workshops.
We've had sidewalk lemonade stands.
We've opened our doors when someone simply needed somewhere to come.

And after seeing a need right here on Hill Street, we created our Community Porch Pantry, where neighbors can anonymously take food and necessities when they need them and leave something when they can.

Then Hurricane Helene devastated communities that our family and friends call home.

So Kyla and I did what we know how to do.

We made medicine.
And made more.
And made more.

We created Herbs for the Hollers, our free mobile herbal clinic. We travel into impacted and underserved communities, set up our clinic, talk with people about what they're experiencing, formulate for them right there when needed, and give the medicine away.

Through this little shop and that little mobile clinic, we've given away more than 20,000 herbal medicines to people in need.

Twenty. Thousand. ❤️

Sometimes I look around this little place and wonder how in the world we've managed to do everything we've done.

Then I look over and see Kyla, look at my family, look at this community that continues to show up for us, and I remember.

This was never supposed to be just a store.

This is our home.
These are our people.
This is our community.
And we genuinely love this town. ❤️

So if you're one of the many people who just found us this week — WELCOME TO FOLK MEDICINE FARM APOTHECARY.🌿

We're a tiny business with a very small crew, a whole lot of heart, and apparently absolutely no ability to see a need in our community and mind our own business. 😂

And I'd say Kyla and I make a pretty darn good pair.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for following our story. Thank you for shopping small. And thank you for helping us continue doing what we love most:

Making medicine. Loving people. And taking care of our community. 🌿❤️

This is probably one of the hardest posts I’ve ever had to write, but I believe in being honest with the community that has supported us from the beginning. ❤️

Folk Medicine Farm Apothecary is struggling, and I am facing the very real possibility of having to close our physical shop.

I want to make something VERY clear before anything else:
Closing our shop does NOT mean closing Folk Medicine Farm.

Before we ever had these four walls, I made your products and you ordered from us online—and if it comes to that, we will do it again. It will be much less convenient for many of our local customers, and it certainly isn't what I want, but Folk Medicine Farm isn't going anywhere. We will make it work.

What is at risk is our storefront and everything this space allows us to do.

Unlike a traditional supplement store where products are purchased wholesale and placed on a shelf, I hand make every single herbal product in our inventory. Every tincture, tea, salve, syrup, butter and oil begins here with raw ingredients, bottles, jars, labels, herbs, oils and supplies.

As those costs continue to rise, so does the overhead required to keep both a production business AND a brick-and-mortar shop running.

When I opened the Apothecary, I knew this was a risk—especially in an uncertain economy. But I believed our community needed a place like this, and I still do.

And look at what WE have accomplished together.

Through Herbs for the Hollers, our mobile herbal clinic, we have donated more than 20,000 herbal products to families in Western North Carolina.

We've taught classes, shared herbal knowledge, helped families and poured back into the community that has supported us.

And then there is our Community Porch Pantry.

This is the part that absolutely breaks my heart.

If our physical shop closes, our Porch Pantry closes with it.

Thinking about having to end something that has fed and helped so many of our neighbors genuinely makes me emotional. We've watched this community fill those shelves again and again. We've watched people quietly take what they need and others quietly leave what they can.

I am not ready to lose that.

So I'm asking for your help.

Not for a handout—but for your business.

If you've been meaning to restock, please come see us. If there's something you've wanted to try, now is the time. Place an online order. Buy a gift certificate. Take a class. Bring a friend who's never visited us before.

And if purchasing isn't possible, SHARE THIS POST. Tell your friends we're here. Interact with our posts. Help more people discover this little apothecary.

Every $10 purchase matters.
Every bag of tea matters.
Every jar of Magnesium Butter matters.
Every tincture matters.
Every customer matters.

We've accomplished so much together, and I truly believe we still have so much more to do.

Folk Medicine Farm will continue no matter what happens to our storefront.

But I'm asking our community to help us fight to keep these doors open, because these doors allow us to do so much more than simply sell herbal medicine.

Please shop small. Please shop local. Please share. And please help us keep our little Apothecary—and our Community Porch Pantry—right here where they belong. ❤️🌿

🌿 DID YOU KNOW YOUR KITCHEN MIGHT ALREADY CONTAIN "KIDNEY HERBS?" 🌿

When people think about herbal medicine, they often imagine some rare plant that has to be ordered from halfway around the world.

Meanwhile...

Dandelions are growing in the yard.
Corn silk is getting thrown in the trash.
Rosemary is sitting in the spice cabinet.
And Nettles have been used as food AND medicine for generations. 🌿

Traditional herbalism was largely built around learning how to use the plants available to us.

Take DANDELION.

🌼 The leaves have traditionally been used for urinary support and as a gentle diuretic.

🌿 The root has traditionally been used as a bitter tonic supporting digestion and liver function.

🌼 The flowers have their own traditional food and topical uses.

One plant. Multiple plant parts. Different purposes.

THAT is the part of herbalism I absolutely love teaching.

Herbal medicine isn't just memorizing:
"Take this herb for that problem."

It's learning the plants, understanding their actions and figuring out when—and when NOT—to use them.

So let's have some fun today:

👇 How many of these have you used?

🌼 Dandelion
🌿 Nettle
🌽 Corn Silk
🌿 Cleavers
🌼 Goldenrod
🌿 Marshmallow Root

Give yourself ONE POINT for every one you've used and drop your score in the comments! 😂🌿

And if your score is ZERO...we've clearly got some herbal education to do!

Stop by the apothecary and see us, or shop with us online. Our Kidney Care Tea is available both in-store and on our website. 💚

🌿HERBAL DIGESTIVE BITTERS — What Are They & Why Would You Use Them?

Sometimes supporting digestion starts before the first bite.

Digestive bitters are an old-school herbal tradition that uses naturally bitter and aromatic herbs to help wake up the digestive system. That bitter taste on your tongue can signal your body that food is coming, encouraging normal digestive secretions and helping prepare the stomach and digestive tract for a meal.

Our Herbal Digestive Bitters are made right here in our shop with homemade Apple Cider Vinegar and a blend of herbs traditionally used for digestive support:

🌱 Dandelion Root — A classic bitter herb traditionally used to support healthy digestion, liver function, and bile flow.

🫚 Ginger Root— Warming and stimulating, ginger has a long history of use for occasional nausea, bloating, gas, and sluggish digestion.

🌼 Chamomile — More than a bedtime herb! Chamomile has traditionally been used to soothe the digestive tract and is especially lovely when digestive upset seems to show up alongside stress.

🍊 Orange Peel— Aromatic, slightly bitter, and traditionally used to encourage digestion while helping with occasional gas and bloating.

🌿 Fennel Seed — One of my favorite digestive herbs! Fennel is traditionally used after meals to ease occasional gas, fullness, and bloating.

🌱 Licorice Root — Traditionally used as a soothing herb for the stomach and digestive tract while also helping round out our bitter formula.

🍎 Homemade Apple Cider Vinegar — Our vinegar base extracts the beautiful properties of these herbs while giving the finished bitters their wonderfully tangy bite.

So, when would you use digestive bitters?

They can be especially helpful as part of your routine shortly before meals, particularly when you tend to experience that heavy, overly-full feeling, occasional bloating or gas after eating.

And here's the important part: bitters are supposed to taste bitter! 😂 That taste is part of the experience. Don't immediately chase them with something sweet, let those bitter flavors hit your taste buds.

🌿 Simple herbs. Traditional wisdom. Everyday digestive support.

Stop by Folk Medicine Farm Apothecary and ask us about our Herbal Digestive Bitters! 💚

Herbal products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent disease. Licorice root and some bitter herbs may not be appropriate for everyone, including during pregnancy or with certain medications or health conditions. Ask your healthcare provider if you're unsure.

Your kidneys do a whole lot of work behind the scenes. 💚

They help filter waste from the blood, balance fluids and electrolytes, support healthy blood pressure, and help keep the body's internal environment in balance.

And yet, kidney health is something most of us don't think about until there's a problem.

This month at Folk Medicine Farm, we're putting a little extra focus on KIDNEY HEALTH—and talking about some of the simple, everyday ways we can support these hardworking organs.

🌿 HERB OF THE MONTH: DANDELION ROOT

Yep—the same dandelion so many people spend their summers trying to get rid of!

Dandelion has a LONG history of use in traditional herbal medicine. Both the leaf and root have been used, although they have slightly different herbal traditions.

Dandelion root is traditionally used as a bitter digestive and liver-supporting herb, while dandelion leaf has traditionally been used to support healthy urinary flow.

Our Dandelion Root Tincture gives you an easy way to incorporate this humble little plant into your herbal routine.

One of my favorite things about dandelion is that it reminds us that some of our most valuable herbs aren't exotic or hard to find—they're growing right beneath our feet. 🌼

🌼 THIS MONTH'S FEATURE: DANDELION ROOT TINCTURE

If you've been wanting to learn more about dandelion or add this traditional herb to your home apothecary, stop by the shop and let us show you our Dandelion Root Tincture.

And remember—supporting your body doesn't have to be complicated.

Drink your water.
Eat nourishing foods.
Move your body.
Pay attention to your blood pressure and blood sugar.
And give those hardworking kidneys a little love. 💚
