June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day-
World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD) is observed every year on June 15th. It was established by the United Nations to raise awareness about the physical, emotional, financial, and neglect-related abuse that can affect older adults.
The day encourages families, caregivers, communities, healthcare professionals, and organizations to recognize the signs of elder abuse and help protect vulnerable seniors.
Common Types of Elder Abuse
✔️ Physical abuse
✔️ Emotional or psychological abuse
✔️ Financial exploitation and scams
✔️ Neglect by caregivers
✔️ Abandonment
Warning Signs:
-Unexplained injuries
-Sudden changes in finances or banking activity
-Isolation from family or friends
-Poor hygiene or unmet medical needs
-Fearfulness around a caregiver
