September has a way of nudging us into new rhythms — new schedules, earlier evenings, a different pace than summer's.

Tomorrow marks another chance to slow down and walk the labyrinth together in Boulder City. There's something steadying about tracing a path that asks nothing of you but your next step — no destination to rush toward, no wrong way to walk it.

Whatever you're carrying as the season shifts, the labyrinth makes room for it. Kelly leads this gentle, moving meditation once a month, and everyone is welcome, exactly as you are — no experience or special gear needed. There's a paradox humming beneath this month's theme: inflammation is both the body's fiercest ally and, when it lingers, its heaviest burden.

This month, we're sitting with that duality — through Paul's clinical lens, and through an image Kelly can't stop returning to: a honeycomb, each hexagon holding exactly what it needs to hold, a hive quietly regulating itself no matter what's happening outside. You are not wrong. You may have been treated for a condition that isn't yours — one that looked like the answer on a quick assessment.

When I taught NP and Oriental Medicine students, I said it every time: no one should be declared to have a mental health issue until the physical causes have been ruled out.

So many of us feel a little adrift right now. Communities shifting, relationships in flux, the old structures not quite fitting.

I believe the answer starts closer in: belonging to yourself first. When you feel at home and safe in your own body, you can fit in almost anywhere.

And the flip side is its own kind of freedom — when someone else isn't at home in their body, you can let them walk their path without needing to be in the middle of it.

Your heart speeds up for no reason you can name. Your body reads it as danger and tells you to run — but there's nothing to run from.

That's panic. And sometimes the cause is one espresso too many, an energy drink on an empty stomach, or the ni****ne pouch in your cheek. Sometimes it's withdrawal. Sometimes it's an aberrant electrical pattern in the heart — a kind of static electricity.

Before it becomes a diagnosis, it's worth asking what else it could be.

"The Loop". Fascia was dismissed for a long time as packing material — the stuff you cut away to reach what mattered. That view has been shifting.

Here's the question I keep sitting with. If the messages your body sends travel through that connective web, then when it's tight, twisted, and carrying more than it can hold, your hormonal shifts might land harder than they otherwise would.

The fascia tightens. The anxiety rises. The fascia tightens further.

It's a deep simplification. It may also be why the work happens in the tissue and not only in the head.

"The patient everyone had written off"

She talked about seeing laser beams, and how the laser beams raised her blood pressure. Most people had decided she was the crazy one.

I ordered a CT scan anyway. It showed a golf-ball-sized tumor pressing near where the optic nerves cross — enough pressure to distort the signal into something her brain could only read as laser beams.

She wasn't crazy. She was describing exactly what was happening to her.
