A couple of weeks ago I finished reading “How to Talk so Teens will Listen & Listen so Teens will Talk” by Faber & Mazlish. It was so eye opening and helpful that I finished reading it in one day. That book referenced their original book “How to talk so kids will listen & Listen so Kids will Talk” which I am reading now. The quotes above are from that book. Parents if you want to prevent a ton of grief — please read these two books. I HIGHLY Recommend them and wish I had read them sooner.

Did you know in Hebrew there’s no word for “coincidence”?

It’s no coincidence that during this time in my life , before and after certain heartbreaking, gut punching events , I’m reading “Theo of Golden” by Allen Levi.

Pretending sadness isn’t there —never brings healing ❤️‍🩹

Sharing with someone safe, crying the most horrible cries, praying prayers like those in the psalms and then choosing grief tools ⚒️ and faith to help process and move forward— that’s where we find healing and hope.

Can you relate?
I have the grief and I have the tools. I can help you with yours. Reach out for a no cost 30 minute confidential consult via zoom.

I painted my front door today. 🎨

I’d lived with a door I disliked for 14 months — old, stained, marked up from the last owner’s sign. Just a door, some would say. But it was the entrance to the first home I’ve ever owned.

Why did I wait so long? (More in comments ⬇️)

Did you know that one of the most important things you learn when you have your own personal life coach is to pay attention to your thoughts ?💭
You learn that what you focus on flourishes — for better or for worse.

You also learn that your thoughts produce your feelings.
But sometimes we have trouble catching the thoughts that cause those heavy feelings when we keep them bottled up inside.
The minute you open up and start talking about them with a coach — your coach listens intently and then with insightful questions helps you get clarity and a clear plan of action. It starts with changing the thoughts 💭 you are choosing to hold onto.

The truth is—
Our thoughts create our feelings.
Our feelings lead to our actions or inaction.
Our actions or inaction create our results.

What do you want to create? Start with your thoughts!

It’s been a challenging two weeks.
Lots of emotions and
Grief here in our home.

There are many ways to lose someone in this life
Death of course being one of the major ways
And then there is—
Losing someone due to
Divorce or a break up of a romantic relationship
Getting fired or laid off; losing managers and co-workers we worked well with
The loss of teachers and fellow classmates when you go off to college
Losing a good boss or colleague when they retire …
And it’s not just the two people who were in the romantic relationship or the two people who were working or going to school together —it is the families and friends who spent time together and built their own relationships with each other — they grieve too

Along with these events and as part of the grief that comes with them is thinking about what could have been or what you think should have been.

It’s mourning the loss of the hopes, dreams and expectations you had for the future.

I was reminded again this week how lonely it can feel because everyone grieves in their own way and sometimes you’re offered the thought that no one will understand, no one is available or wants to listen. But the truth is there are many options —it’s just a matter of reaching out and finding the best one for you.

Thank God, I have my own business & life coach , who is available to listen , every week once a week — at the same time and place (online). Not a chat — a real life human who cares about me.

If you don’t have that person , find him or her this week. And if you need some help— I’m here and I know several wise experienced life coaches that I can refer to you. You are not alone

Today I want to remind us that part of grief is wishing we had said or done something that we didn’t do —-at the time we wished we had done it.

I wish I had said…
I wish I had gone to…
I wish I had been there for the…
If only I hadn’t …
If only I had…

These unmet hopes and dreams become part of the grief we carry around into our present and future. It can weigh us down, discourage us and steal our joy and peace. It can also lead to more missed opportunities and negatively affect our current relationships.

So today, I encourage you to spend the next few weeks of summer doing that thing that you’ve been wanting to do. Big or small, scary or exciting (or both). Make the appointment. Call the person or place and schedule it.

Don’t let the summer pass you by and leave you with regrets or “what if I had xyz?”
Choose to move forward.

And if you want a real live person to help you plan and do the thing — message me for a no cost consult via Zoom.

This time last year …
Five years ago…
When we lived in …
When we used to get together with…
When grandma was alive..
Last year we couldn’t celebrate because…
This time reminds me of…
I sure miss when..

Holidays, anniversaries and other special dates during the year can bring up heavy emotions and painful memories for many people.

Your friends and family may be smiling and celebrating; eating, drinking and lighting fireworks but that doesn’t mean they aren’t grieving a devastating event (like the floods last year in Texas) or the loss of someone important in their life.

Even though most people might not be talking about what’s in their heart. I want you to know you’re not alone. And also that as a Grief specialist and Life Coach I am here for you.
Please reach out today in my dm’s to set up a no cost confidential consult via Zoom. Give yourself a space to be heard this week.

Today, many people are celebrating Father’s Day. But for some, today also brings grief.

Maybe you miss your dad. Maybe you never had the relationship you hoped for. Maybe there are words that were said—or never said. Things done—or not done.

Grief can and often does coexist with days of celebration.

Proverbs 13:12 reminds us, “Hope deferred makes the heart sick, but a longing fulfilled is a tree of life.”

If you are feeling a lot this Father’s Day; you’re not alone.

It’s possible to celebrate the good while also grieving the pain.

And wherever your earthly father fell short, know that your Heavenly Father sees you, loves you completely, and draws near to the brokenhearted.

Sending love to anyone carrying both gratitude and grief today. 💙

Two Relationships, One Person

Last weekend I celebrated my aunt’s 80th birthday surrounded by family. It was a beautiful time filled with gratitude, laughter, and memories. And yet there was sadness too as it was clear that my aunt was living with dementia and her memory and awareness was declining.

It was a reminder of something I learned while being trained in the Grief Recovery Method®:

When someone develops dementia, you may find yourself grieving two different relationships.

The relationship you had with the person before dementia.

And the relationship you have with them now.

Both relationships matter. Both contain memories, hopes, disappointments, and emotions.

Many caregivers and family members feel confused by their sadness because their loved one is still alive.

But grief isn’t limited to death. We grieve changes, too.

If you’ve loved someone with dementia, you’re not grieving “wrong.” You’re responding to a real loss.

💜 Join a Grief Recovery Method Small Group this summer. Learn the myths we’ve learned from our family, friends and culture and how to process your own grief as well as be there for others going through their own. DM to hop on a no cost consult today.
