Sharing this again because I think we could all use a reminder to be grateful for indoor heat, reliable power, and hot showers... and democracy (whether the ones you voted for won or lost) for that matter.

My Pop gave me this pocket knife on my birthday when I was 8 or 9. We were in the middle of an eight day backpacking trip, but he brought ingredients for s’mores and this knife. His hiking partner Frank immediately put the knife on a string and put it around my neck. “There, you’re all set, now don’t cut yourself,” is what they said. Of course I did immediately, but I think I managed to hide it from them until the next day. Going to bed that night, I remember thinking a bear was definitely going to get me. It didn’t. I survived that trip and this one and I added a new element to my favorite twenty-year-old necklace. It’s an LED Inova microlight that operates with a thumb swipe instead of a button or switch. I freaking love this little thing and I might just say fuuuuck you to headlamps, cause mine always fail anyway and before headlamps I was just sticking my flashlight up in my beanie anyway. That’s right guys, I invented headlamps when I was seven and sure they were already invented, but my little kid brain didn’t know that so for all intents and purposes (BTW until 2017 I thought the phrase was ‘for all intensive purposes’) I invented headlamps and maybe I’m still learning the English language at nearly thirty, but whatevs y’all...
