A Drop-In Broom Decorating Workshop

The broom has always belonged to the hearth… a humble household tool carrying a little folklore within its bristles. Across various folk and magical traditions, the besom became a symbol of clearing away stagnant energy, protecting the home, tending sacred space, and making way for something new.

During Founders Weekend in Downtown Lee, stop by the porch at The Enchanted Altar and decorate a broom of your own. Choose from an assortment of ribbons and charms to add color, symbolism, and personal intention… or bring a favorite ribbon, bell, trinket, charm, or keepsake to weave into your creation.

I love that each finished broom can become whatever feels right to its keeper: autumn décor, a piece of folk art, a spiritual object, a magical tool… or a little of each.

🌿✨ A Little Magic for the Spice Cupboard… We've recently added something new to the shelves at The Enchanted Altar… beautiful, unusual, and thoughtfully sourced herbs, spices, salts, and sugars from Curio Spice Co.

As an herbalist, I love remembering that our relationship with plants doesn't stop with tinctures, teas, and remedies… it follows us right into the kitchen. Herbs and spices connect us to land, culture, tradition, and generations of people who have grown, gathered, blended, and cooked with them. The kitchen might just be one of our oldest apothecaries.

And part of why I feel so good about carrying Curio is the story behind the company. This independent, woman-owned certified B Corp® works directly with smallholder spice farms around the world as well as growers here in New England, paying above Fair Trade prices while supporting farmers, communities, gender equality, and care for the land.

We've chosen an eclectic assortment to begin, including Herb Goddess, Fleur Spice, Magic Salt, Aegean Salt, Moroccan Rose Sugar, Saffron Sugar, Herbes de Romance, Everything Rainbow, and Provincetown Pride… from smoky and savory to floral, herbal, citrusy, and wonderfully unexpected.

I especially love ingredients that make you curious enough to start imagining what you might create with them. Rose sugar stirred into tea, saffron sugar folded into baking, herbs scattered over garden vegetables, or a new blend added to an old family recipe… sometimes a little kitchen magic begins simply by opening the spice cupboard and asking, what if I tried this 🌹🌿🥄✨

🌼 Calendula & Kindred: Herbal Oils, Salve & Botanical Skin Care 🌼
One of my favorite ways to know a plant is through the preparations we create with it… learning its traditional uses, observing how it works alongside other herbs, and carrying a little of the garden’s abundance with us into the season ahead.

Join me at the Berkshire Botanical Garden on Saturday, September 12th from 2-4 pm for a hands-on exploration of Calendula and its beloved kindred: Lavender, Chamomile, Plantain, Comfrey, and Yarrow.

Together, we will explore the traditional skin-supportive properties of these plants and learn the foundations of herbal oil infusion and salve making. Participants will pour a Calendula & Kindred salve, assemble a personalized herbal-infusion jar, and create botanical oil preparations to take home… along with recipes and the knowledge needed to continue working with these plants in their own kitchen apothecary.

This class is perfect for those who are new to herbalism as well as anyone wishing to deepen their relationship with plant medicine through practical, creative experience.

🍎🎨 Back to the Art Room + Autumn Hours 🍂🌿 And just like that, it's almost time for me to trade a few of my days behind the counter for days back in the art room! As much as I love spending the summer at the shop, I'm also looking forward to another year of making, creating, and encouraging young artists as I head back to teaching.

✨ Monday, August 24th + Tuesday, August 25th will be our final Monday & Tuesday OPEN for the summer season.

Our Autumn Hours will be:
Monday + Tuesday | CLOSED
Wednesday – Saturday | 10 am – 6 pm
Sunday | 11 am – 5 pm

These hours will carry us through the remainder of 2026, with occasional extra days during school breaks and holidays.

And while summer may be winding down, there is still so much happening in Lee this autumn that I'm excited about. 🍂

🌼 On Saturday, September 12th, I’ll be teaching Calendula & Kindred at the Berkshire Botanical Garden, visit our website to register, where we’ll explore herbal medicine-making while crafting botanical infused oils, salves, and balms. A day of plants, creativity, and hands-on herbalism… three of my favorite things 🌿✨

Lee Chamber Founders Weekend returns September 18th – 20th, and on Saturday the 19th we'll be decorating brooms right here on the porch ✨ 🧹✨

The Lee Farmers Market continues Saturdays from 10 am – 2 pm, including a special Art in the Park on September 5th.

And then, of course, October brings one of my absolute favorite days of the year… 🖤🎃
All Hallows Lee returns Saturday, October 17th from 12 – 5 PM on the Park Green in Downtown Lee, organized by Berkshire Moonlit Markets. Be sure to follow them as all of this year's wonderfully strange and magical details begin to unfold.

There is something I love about this time of year… the rhythm changes, the days begin to soften, and our little town starts slipping toward autumn. I'm looking forward to everything this next season brings, both in the art room and here at The Enchanted Altar 🍎🍂🕯️

There is something irresistible about an object that is both beautifully made and wonderfully useful, and these whimsical embroidered velvet pouches from Danica Studio have quickly become some of my new favorites in the shop.

The heavens unfold in three acts: six planets before sunrise, a New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Leo during the day, and the Perseid Meteor Shower carrying ancient fire across the night sky. Salt is one of the oldest protective substances on earth. Across cultures and centuries, it has been used to purify spaces, seal intentions, ward off what doesn't belong, and mark the sacred from the ordinary. The Owens women knew this. So did your grandmother, even if she called it superstition rather than magic.

At this make-and-take workshop during our Practical Magic inspired community day, you'll browse a curated ingredient bar of dried botanicals, herbs, and essential oils. From there you build your own signature salt blend. There are many different uses depending on your needs. Maybe that's a bath soak ritual at the end of a hard week, a kitchen salt that makes Tuesday dinner feel intentional, or a protective blend for your doorway, windowsill, or altar.

Create a Bath Salt, Herbal Culinary Salt Mix, or Ritual Salt Blend... or one of each... $15 per bottle

There will be information to walk you through the magical properties of each ingredient while you work, so what you're building is intentional, chosen with full knowledge of what every element means and does.
