Busy realtor.
Busy life.
Zero margin.

Spud rebuilt his body and found a six pack for the first time in his life.
That discipline spilled into everything else.

His relationships improved.
His business sharpened.
He launched a startup.

Same man.
Different standards.

It's hard to find out what good parents are until you have moments like these.

I was in my late 30s when things got dark: surgeries, diagnoses, disease.

Suddenly everything we and my wife had planned for was completely gone. We didn't know what to look for in the future and we still had other kids to take care of.

I've never felt more lost in my life.

We were grinding through these couple of days, just trying our best to hang on.

I was lucky. My mom showed up.

I knew she couldn't fix everything. She didn't have a magic wand but when she got there, my life got better.

There's nothing more powerful than a mother's love.

And that's when I realized how important it is to be a good parent because eventually my kids are going to go through something similar and I will be there for them.

Weight loss is easy to measure.

You step on a scale, you see the number move, and you think that is the win.

But there are things this process fixes that you will never see on paper.

I was talking with my buddy Spud, and he said something most men never say out loud.

He told me his wife had considered leaving him.

Not because he was a bad man. Not because he did not care.

Because he was gone, even when he was sitting right there. No time, no connection, no presence.

He said he was a decent dad back then. Just not the kind of father he is now.

That is the part people miss.

The weight was just the surface.

What actually changed was how he showed up.
At home. In conversations. In his marriage.

If he kept going the way he was, he already knows where it would have ended.

Not every win shows up in pounds.

Some of them show up in a wife who stays.
In a family that holds together.
In a man who is finally present in his own life.

Look, took a long time to realize what the army gave me

It took a lot from me. I'm not going to lie: the struggles, the sacrifices. Things weren't always easy

Navigating through bad leadership and poor decisions

Never having any privacy

I also learned it gave me the ability to spot people that can't make decisions (poor leadership) but it does make me miss my brothers and my community

After everything I wouldn't change it. I think the Army has given me a mental edge to do whatever I can and prepared me for my next mission

I thought back-to-school was going to be my time.

Through this first month of adjustment you get sick, you're falling behind, and you're not checking the backpacks. It's not as easy as you remember it.

And don't get me started on bedtimes.

It just takes a second to redial in your routine.

You'll get it figured out. Back to being that great parent that your kids love and enjoy being around

Here's the story of my diet secret.

I do pretty good most days, but when I go off the rails, I go off the rails.

Itโ€™s the way I manage and it works.

Iโ€™m sure somebody out there can relate

I keep seeing this in the gym......

Kids are everywhere, hanging on the equipment, just following their parents around, not really working out.

When I brought my kids to the gym I used to get so concerned that they were bothering people or they were just goofing off and playing on the equipment not like they were supposed to.

It kept me from bringing my kids to the gym.

Then I realized I'm exposing them to good habits and building a relationship with them.

There's so much to be gained from having a child watch their parents do hard things.

Your kids are going to become some version of you so make sure that they're becoming a good version of you by seeing your good habits.

Remember you're raising adults, not children. Expose them to good stuff early.
