Feeding therapy is NOT just about food exposure. 🍽️

We hear this misconception all the time and we need to set the record straight, because families deserve to know what a truly comprehensive feeding evaluation looks at. 💙

Swipe through to learn about the 4 components to feeding therapy and why every single one plays a role in your child’s relationship with food. 👇🏽

Here is what I want every parent to know about each component :

👄 Oral Motor — If your child is stuffing food, spitting it out, or avoiding certain textures it may not be behavior. It may be that their mouth is working harder than it should. Watch how your child chews and moves food around, it tells us a lot.

🖐🏽 Sensory — If your child gags at the sight or smell of certain foods, only eats specific brands, or melts down when foods touch, their sensory system is overwhelmed. This is real and valid and something we can work on together.

🧠 Food Relationships — If mealtimes feel like a battle every single night, your child may have developed anxiety and negative associations around food. Pressure, bribing, and forcing bites can deepen this over time. Creating a calm, no pressure mealtime environment is one of the most powerful things you can do at home.

🦠 Gut Health — If your child is constipated, gassy, has reflux, or seems uncomfortable, their gut may be driving their food refusal. This is often the most overlooked part and it can change everything when addressed.

When we only treat one part, we get incomplete results. Every child deserves a whole picture approach. 💙

If your child is struggling at mealtime and you feel like you have tried everything, this might be exactly why. 🤍

Tiny Talkers showed up and showed OUT today! 🐝🌸

This week we buzzed our way through a spring and bug themed class and the energy in that room was everything. 🤍

Here’s what we were secretly working on the whole time 👇🏽

🐝 Vocabulary — bugs, flowers, and all things spring
🔢 Counting — because math and language go hand in hand
🧴 Sensory bin — our bee themed bin was a FULL hit and kept those little hands busy and minds engaged
🎵 Music & movement — because rhythm supports speech, language and memory
🤲 Gestures — for our little ones who need extra input, gestures are a powerful bridge to communication and we love them here

This is what play based learning looks like. Fun on the outside. Intentional on the inside. 💙

If your toddler is between 1–3 years old and you are looking for a fun, language rich environment this spring, we still have spots available or check out our summer camp 🌸

Latina SLP in the building. 🇨🇴🇪🇨🔥

And I wear this shirt with every single piece of my heart. 🤍

Growing up bilingual I never saw someone who looked like me, spoke like me, or understood my culture sitting in a therapy or education room. And now I GET to BE that person for families. 💙

That means everything to me.

Being a Latina SLP is not just a title. It is a responsibility. It is showing up for the abuela who only speaks Spanish. It is understanding what it feels like to live between two languages and two worlds. It is making sure no family ever feels like they don’t belong. 🌎

Representation matters in every field, and it matters especially in healthcare and education. Our kids deserve to see themselves reflected in the people who support them.

And if this shirt is speaking to your soul the way it speaks to mine, you can get yours too! 👕🔥

Link in bio to shop — because every Latina SLP deserves to wear her pride.

One of my favorite things about this career? No two days look the same. 🤍

Some days I am in an office doing feeding and myofunctional therapy. Some days I am in someone’s home with a babies. And some days I am walking into a school building.

This is the life I chose. And I am so grateful for every single environment I get to walk into. 💙

Being your own boss is not always easy. But the freedom to show up for families in so many different ways? Worth every single bit of it. 🤍

Talk Tip Tuesday! 💬 Unpopular opinion incoming… 👇🏽
Waiting until age 3 to get a speech evaluation is too long.

And I say that with all the love in the world for the pediatricians out there, but this is something parents need to hear.

The first 3 years of life are the most critical window for brain development and language growth. Every single month matters.

Here’s what we know:
🧠 80% of brain development happens before age 3
🗣️ Early intervention leads to significantly better outcomes
⏰ The earlier we identify a concern, the more we can do about it

If something feels off at 12 months, 18 months, 24 months, that feeling is data. Don’t let anyone tell you to just wait and see.

You don’t wait to treat an ear infection. Don’t wait on your child’s communication either. 🤍
Trust your gut. Get the eval.

We are rich in life over here. 🤍

Not because of a paycheck. Not because of a title.
Because every single day we get to show up for children and families who trust us with the most important person in their world.

Swipe through and you’ll see exactly why we do what we do and why we would choose this path every single time.

At LISFT we believe that every child deserves to communicate, eat, and breathe with confidence. We show up for your family in English AND Spanish because every family deserves to feel seen and heard.

This is more than a practice. It is a community built on love, science, and a whole lot of heart.

If your child needs support, we are here.

Talk Tip Tuesday! 💬 This one is for every parent who has ever been told their child “doesn’t qualify” and felt completely lost. 💙

First, your feelings are valid. That denial can feel like a door slamming in your face when you KNOW something is going on with your child.

But here is what I need you to know:

A denial is not the end of the road. 🚫🛑

Here’s what you can do:
1️⃣ Request a written explanation of why your child was denied and what scores were used to make that decision.
2️⃣ Ask for an independent evaluation — you have the right to request one if you disagree with the results.
3️⃣ Appeal the decision — every state has an appeals process and you are entitled to use it.
4️⃣ Seek a private evaluation — a private SLP can evaluate your child independently and provide recommendations that support your case.
5️⃣ Trust your gut — Early Intervention uses cutoff scores, but scores don’t always capture the full picture of YOUR child.

You are your child’s biggest advocate. Don’t stop pushing. 🤍

“Is this a phase… or should we be concerned?”
That’s one of the most common questions families ask about speech and feeding. 💛

We just shared a new blog post to help parents understand what they’re seeing — and what they can do next.

A few things we encourage families to try at home:
✨ keep routines predictable — regulation supports communication and eating
✨ model language during play instead of asking lots of questions
✨ keep mealtimes low-pressure and exposure-focused
✨ offer familiar foods alongside new foods
✨ watch patterns over time, not just one hard day

These small supports can make a big difference — and they’re easier than most parents think.

If you want more detailed guidance, signs to watch for, and next-step support strategies, read the full post at the link in bio ✨

You don’t have to figure it out alone.

You don’t need to turn your home into a therapy room 💛

Here are simple ways parents can support speech and feeding in everyday moments:

✨ Talk with your child, not at them
Narrate play, meals, and routines instead of asking lots of questions.

✨ Keep mealtimes low-pressure
Exposure and exploration build skills faster than “just one more bite.”

✨ Follow routines when you can
Predictability supports regulation — and regulated kids learn better.

✨ Model the skill you want to see
Short phrases, slow speech, chewing calmly — kids learn by watching.

✨ Focus on connection first
Connection builds safety. Safety builds growth.

✨ Remember: progress isn’t always visible
Skills often grow quietly before they show up out loud.

You’re already doing more than you think 💛
Support doesn’t have to be perfect — it just has to be consistent.
