“Participation in youth sports is growing by leaps and bounds but unfortunately good nutrition is too often sidelined by a lack of sports nutrition guidance for young athletes, including a lack of age - appropriate information, inappropriate food offerings on the field, poor eating habits, the time limitations of parents, and much more. It’s not easy to pull out your secret weapon - solid nutrition- and gain the edge in competition. “
I hope to help change that by developing a simplified approach for families to follow. We invest in the training, the gear, the travel, it’s time to invest in our kids nutrition!
Did you know that most kids are actually under-fueled for sports? This can lead to a dangerous health situation for them which can interfere with growth, puberty, bone health and can even lead to vitamin and mineral deficiencies. On the flip side, many young athletes are eating diets too high in saturated fat and sugar. This creation of nutritional deficits or excess is robbing kids of their true athletic potential. But, an energetic, focused, fueled athlete on a solid nutrition plan can launch to a new level of performance.
Bottom line, adult nutrition is not the same as youth nutrition. As a parent do you want to know more on how to properly fuel your young athlete for health and performance? Are you frustrated by the lack of available information on this topic? I would love to hear your thoughts.
Today was an all-day tournament for us and I was not about to depend on the chicken nuggets, french fries, candy, soft pretzels and chips offered by the food stand to make sure Sofia was properly fueled. Instead, I packed a cooler of quick grab items that provided hydration, simple & complex carbs, protein and healthy fat. I knew what to pack so it didn’t take much time.
