A few days ago, I realized I could make this shape again.
It's something I used to do easily as a child, without thinking twice about it. Somewhere along the way, life happened.
Stress happened.
Autoimmune struggles happened.
My body changed.
As I lifted into this pose, I was surprised by the flood of memories and emotions that came with it. It wasn't about looking a certain way. It was about reconnecting with a version of myself I hadn't seen in a long time. A very long time.
One thing I've learned on my healing journey is that getting healthier doesn't always mean pushing harder.
Sometimes healing looks like slowing down.
Sometimes it looks like Chair Yoga. Sometimes it looks like Yin Yoga. Sometimes it looks like Hatha Yoga. Sometimes it looks like taking a breath instead...
For many of us, our bodies can stay stuck in survival mode. Elevated cortisol levels can impact everything from sleep to inflammation to weight.
The practices that helped me weren't the most intense workouts.
Movement matters.
Strength matters.
But so does regulation.
If you're feeling overwhelmed by where you are today, know that small, consistent steps can create change. You don't have to start with the hardest workout in the room. You can start with a chair. You can start with a breath. You can start exactly where you are.
And one day, you may surprise yourself by discovering that your body remembers things you thought were long gone.
