Most golfers try to create rotation from their low back… but that is not where it should come from. ⛳️
Your thoracic spine (mid-back) is built for rotation and extension. When that area becomes stiff, the body still finds a way to complete the golf swing. The problem is that the movement usually comes from the low back, shoulders, or hips instead. Over time this can lead to pain, limited rotation, and an inefficient swing.
Two simple drills that can help restore thoracic mobility are:
• Quadruped Thread the Needle with Foam Roller Assistance. This helps improve rotational mobility through the mid-back while keeping the low back stable.
• Thoracic Extension on Foam Roller. This encourages extension through the thoracic spine so you can maintain posture and rotate more effectively during your swing.
When the thoracic spine moves the way it is supposed to, several things often improve:
âś… Smoother shoulder turn
âś… Less stress placed on the low back
âś… Better ability to maintain posture through the swing
âś… More efficient power transfer
Many golfers try to fix their swing when the real limitation is mobility in their spine and/or hips!
If your back feels stiff during your swing or after a round of golf, improving thoracic mobility is a great place to start.
