Let me tell you something a really good pastor friend told me a long time ago…
Sometimes you have to do the thing before you feel the thing.
We put an awful lot of weight on feelings when we’re trying to make a decision.
“I just don’t have peace about it yet.”
Okay. But is God actually telling you to wait?
Or are you standing on top of the fence waiting to feel peaceful while trying to balance between two choices?
Because, friend…nobody has peace on top of a fence. They weren’t made for standin’ on.😂
You’re wobbling now. You might just stay wobbling the whole time you’re up there choosing…and choosing…and choosing…but never leaping to one side or the other.
One minute you’re leaning this way. Then something scares you and you lean the other way. You pray about it again. You rethink everything. You ask somebody else. You make a pros and cons list. You decide.
Then you undecide…again.
And three weeks later you’re still sitting on that fence with a spiritual splinter in your backside asking God why you don’t have peace.
Maybe because fences weren’t made for standin’ on.
At some point, after you’ve prayed, searched Scripture, used the wisdom God gave you, and sought wise counsel when you need it, you have to choose which side you’re getting down on.
Sometimes you have to climb down before your feelings are ready to come with you.
That does NOT mean ignoring the Holy Spirit’s warning or bulldozing through legitimate caution. Discernment matters.
But 𝘧𝘦𝘢𝘳 𝘪𝘴 𝘯𝘰𝘵 𝘢𝘭𝘸𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘢 𝘴𝘵𝘰𝘱 𝘴𝘪𝘨𝘯.🛑
Uncertainty is 𝘯𝘰𝘵 always God saying no.
And feeling nervous about a decision does not necessarily mean you made the wrong one.
Sometimes it simply means you’re doing something hard. And with hard things, sometimes you’ve just gotta do it scared.
See, we have an enemy who would be perfectly happy to keep us perched on that fence indefinitely if indecision keeps us from moving forward in obedience, healing, purpose, healthy boundaries, or freedom.
He doesn’t necessarily need to convince you to run the wrong direction if he can convince you not to move at all.
So pray.
Listen.
Check it against God’s Word.
Use wisdom.
Then, when you know what the next right thing is, get your hiney off the fence. 😂
But there are also some things you just won’t know for sure. Still got to move your tail end down off one side or the other. Gather your evidence, your pros and cons list, or just your courage and move.
Put your feet on solid ground and start walking.
If you see the bull runnin’ at ya, you can squeeze through the slats to the other side! 😂
Or guess what…you might just discover that the peace you kept waiting to feel while you were wobbling between two choices was waiting for you on the other side of actually making one.
Feelings can catch up. And besides - feelings are real, but they aren’t always reliable narrators of truth. So listen to them - just don’t hand them the microphone and let them preach the whole sermon. 😂
Faith can move first.
Sometimes you’ve just gotta to do it scared. 😱 👍🏻
Happy Choice Makin’!
