What your Body is Telling You- Daily Check-In’s I do as an Acupuncturist✨
🕊️Poop Check: Yes I check my p**p every single day!
Color, consistency, frequency, odor, and ease of elimination, indicate digestive function. 🙌🏽Undigested food or loose stools may indicate spleen qi / digestion is weak. 🙌🏽Dry stools/constipation can be due to inefficiency or excess heat/stress leading to dryness.
🕊️Tongue Coating: I checked the coating every morning, which is indicative of how well my body is digesting. I pay attention to its thickness, color, and texture. 🙌🏽A thick coat indicate poor digestion, too much greasy or sugary foods from the previous day, and expelled out from undigested foods. 🙌🏽No coat: too much heat &/or dryness. 🙌🏽A thin white coat is preferable and indicative of healthy digestion.
🕊️Skin health: skin health in TCM is reflective of our internal state. Changes in texture, moisture, tone, dryness, breakouts, or inflammation offer clues about sleep, digestion, hydration, and circulation.
I look at the quality of my skin when I wake up and that shows me how much I need to hydrate what foods to focus on how much trust I need that day and my focus on sleep that night.
🕊️Pulse Reading: this might be more advanced, but I like to check my pulse when I wake up. I check not only the rate and rhythm, but the quality of the pulse, and how the vessels feel beneath my fingers and how it feels when blood moves through them.
As an acupuncturist, this practice is part of our diagnosis, and it gives us insight into the state of Chi and blood, and how the bodies organ systems are functioning. Checking my pulse gives me information about my own internal organ system, and how best I can support my body that day.
✨Our bodies are constantly communicating with us. You can check in with your bodily functions on a daily basis to give you clues about your own inner landscape. This is preventative care at work, and how we take health into our own hands.
