Seasonal Allergy Support

If you’ve been experiencing:
• sinus pressure
• headaches around the forehead or eyes
• ear fullness or ear aches
• congestion
• post-nasal drip
• itchy eyes

You’re not alone.

The recent swings between warm days and cool evenings, combined with high pollen levels throughout the Long Grove area, have been particularly challenging for many people this season.

A few simple ways to support yourself:

✓ Rinse pollen from your hair before bed
✓ Change pillowcases frequently
✓ Keep windows closed during high-pollen days
✓ Stay hydrated
✓ Consider a saline nasal rinse if appropriate for you
✓ Limit prolonged outdoor exposure when pollen counts are highest

From a Chinese medicine perspective, seasonal allergies often reflect a combination of environmental exposure and the body’s ability to adapt to seasonal change.

Acupuncture may help support the body’s natural response to seasonal allergens and can be a useful part of an overall wellness plan.

Are allergies affecting you this season?

Living With the Seasons

Week 2: Welcoming Summer

June arrives with longer days, brighter mornings, and an invitation to open our hearts a little wider.

In Chinese medicine, summer is associated with the Heart, the organ connected not only to circulation, but also to joy, connection, laughter, and emotional well-being.

Yet many of us enter summer carrying the fatigue of a busy spring.

We push through exhaustion.
We fill every weekend.
We stay up later because the sun stays out longer.

And then we wonder why we feel scattered, restless, or emotionally depleted.

The wisdom of summer is not to do more.

It is to fully experience the warmth, connection, and joy that already exists around us.

This week, consider:
• Sitting outside with your morning coffee or tea
• Taking a walk without your phone
• Sharing a meal with someone you love
• Watching a sunset
• Allowing yourself a moment of genuine laughter

The Heart thrives on simple moments of connection.

Seasonal Reflection:

What brings genuine joy to your life? When was the last time you made space for it?

Nature’s reminder:
Summer is not asking you to become more productive.
It is inviting you to become more present.

Living With the SeasonsLate Spring to Early Summer
The days are growing warmer, but the evenings still carry a coolness that asks us to slow down.

In Chinese medicine, this transitional time of year can feel unsettling to the body. Warm afternoons encourage expansion and activity, while cool evenings remind us that spring has not fully released its grip.

Many people notice:• restless sleep• waking during the night• tension headaches• irritability• feeling “off” emotionally• fatigue despite longer days

This is a season of transition and transition requires adjustment.
A few gentle ways to support yourself right now:• bring a light layer for the cooler evenings, keep your neck covered• avoid iced drinks late in the day• take walks at sunset instead of pushing intense exercise• eat lightly cooked seasonal foods• allow yourself more quiet at night

Nature does not rush from one season to the next.Neither should we.
Reflection for today:Where in your life are you trying to move faster than your body is ready for?

This Memorial Day, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.

May we carry gratitude in our hearts today, not only through remembrance, but also through caring for ourselves and one another.

Take time to rest, breathe deeply, connect with loved ones, and appreciate the moments of peace made possible by those who served.

With gratitude,

Happy Mother’s Day to the women who hold everything together — often quietly, often tirelessly, and often while caring for everyone else before themselves.

Today is a reminder that nurturing is powerful medicine too.

To the mothers, grandmothers, stepmothers, caregivers, daughters caring for aging parents, women longing to become mothers, and those carrying grief today — we see you.

May you find a moment to breathe deeply, rest fully, and receive some of the same care you so freely give to others.

In Chinese medicine, the Heart is deeply connected to joy, connection, and presence. Today, may your Heart feel supported, appreciated, and at peace.

Happy Mother’s Day from Points of Wellness

I went to a tulip festival this week.
For the flowers and not for the flowers.
It is for what happens to the body when it finally slows down.
Your breath deepens.Your shoulders drop.Your mind stops running a hundred miles an hour.
This is the state your body needs to heal.
In Chinese medicine, spring is about movement—Liver Qi expanding, circulation returning.
But most people are still tight. Still stuck. Still pushing.
Sometimes healing isn’t adding more.
It is creating space.
It is walking amongst the fields of tulips.
It is feeling and seeing the greens taking over.
It is just enjoying the moments.

Spring is beautiful… but for many, it comes with sneezing, sinus pressure, itchy eyes, and fatigue.

At Points of Wellness, we carry Quercetin UltraSorb by Pure Encapsulations , a high-quality, highly absorbable form of quercetin to support your body during allergy season.

Why quercetin in the spring?
• Helps stabilize mast cells, less histamine release
• Supports sinus and respiratory health
• Reduces inflammation triggered by pollen and wind
• Gentle support for immune balance (not just stimulation)

In Chinese medicine terms, spring brings Wind and for some, that means internal reactivity. This is one way we help the body stay steady instead of reactive.

If your body tends to flare every year around this time, this may be a simple addition to support your system.

As always, we guide you based on your pattern.

In Chinese medicine, Earth is the center.
It grounds us, nourishes us, and holds everything together.

Just like the soil supports growth,
your body thrives when it feels supported, steady, and cared for.

When Earth is balanced, we feel:
• centered
• nourished
• present
• at ease in our body

When it’s out of balance, it can show up as:
overthinking, fatigue, digestive issues, or feeling “unrooted”

Today is a simple reminder:
Take care of the Earth outside…
and the Earth within you.

Eat warm, nourishing foods.
Step outside and feel the ground beneath you.
Slow down enough to actually receive.

Healing doesn’t always come from doing more
sometimes it comes from returning to center.

In Chinese medicine, this is Dampness + Wind rising in the environment.
And your body feels it.
Heaviness
Brain fog
Increases pain
Joint aches
Digestive sluggishness
Low motivation
Emotional weight
This kind of weather doesn’t just pass through the sky,
it settles into the body if we’re not careful.
How to stay balanced right now:
– Keep your neck and upper back covered (Wind enters here first)
– Go lighter on cold/raw foods (protect your Spleen energy)
– Sip something warm like ginger tea, cinnamon, or even just hot water. A nice bowl of pho.
– Move your body gently (don’t let Dampness stagnate)
– Dry your hair before bed (this matters more than people think)

This is not the time to push harder.
It’s the time to protect your center and stay grounded.
Your body is always responding to the environment.
The more you understand that… the more control you have.
