When was the last time you let yourself dream? I mean really, truly dream about the life you want to live. What would you do?

Once upon a time, I dreamed about completing an Ironman. The first time I said the dream aloud, I didn't know how or when I would make it happen or even what it meant. But I felt that dream rock me to my core. Saying it out loud awoke something inside of me.

A couple of years later, while undergoing treatment for thyroid cancer, my endocrinologist invited me to do a triathlon with her. Not an Ironman. A local sprint. Women only. Beginner friendly.

She knew I was a runner, and when she looked at me, she saw a woman who was strong and capable with a fire inside of her.

When I crossed the finish line at that race, I knew I wanted more.

Life had other plans for a while. But dreams like that don't die. They may go dormant. But the dreams that haunt you will find a way to re-emerge. Sometimes it takes someone else believing in you before you're ready to believe in yourself. It takes the invitation to start.

So here I am, offering you my hand. I will help you if you have the courage to start, to say your dream out loud, to take the first step in pursuing your wildest endurance dream, whether it's an Ironman or a 5k. Every dream matters. Every dream deserves support and guidance and a plan.

What would you do if you knew you could succeed? I believe in you. Let's freaking go! When do we start?

Are you receiving treatment or care?

What would it feel like to work with someone who truly cares about *you*? Not just your numbers. All of you - the beautiful parts, the messy pieces. All of it matters because we can't expect long-term results if we only focus on one number or metric.

Medical nutrition therapy and endurance coaching are all about helping you look at the big picture and implementing the gradual behavior changes that support you as a person and not just a set of numbers.

If you're ready to experience real care as you work towards improving your nutrition and endurance, I'm here to help! DM "care" or drop a comment.

That feeling when you're openly vegan at a dietetics conference... Even the other dietitians can't help but ask, "Where do you get your protein?"

In this case, it was coming from a place of genuine curiosity because a lot of people are curious about plant-based diets, and as dietitians, it's our job to meet people where they are and help them navigate both the evidence around food and disease states, as well as current food trends and products on shelves.

Where do I get my protein? In descending order:

I love my tofu, other soy products, high-protein faux meat, protein shakes, and certain protein bars. Some nuts, most seeds, and nutritional yeast are also high in protein. Then we've got beans, whole grains, and other whole foods.

You don’t need amino acid supplements. Variety is vital - within meals, throughout the day, and over the long-term (i.e. don’t eat only one thing all day every day; mix it up!).

Still have questions about what that all means? Let me know! I'm always happy to chat more.

Ok, ok, I know it's no longer Monday, but I would be remiss if I didn't take a moment to celebrate for his *incredible* finish at the Cal Tri Lake Perris Sprint on Sunday.

Friends, Jimmy took 7 MINUTES off his time from last year!!! It has been an absolute honor to guide him along his journey on all fronts, watching him become srronger, faster, and more confident in his ability to toe the start line and put out his best effort. I can't wait to see where he sets his sights next!

Happy all! Today, we're celebrating , who rocked her first ever 10K this weekend!

Emily is proof that you *can* pursue your goals and show up for your family. Sometimes the goals will shift or change, and that's OK. Keep putting in the reps. Keep showing up for yourself. It fills your cup, so you ultimately have more to give, both to yourself and to others.

Gearing up for a full day of clients, meetings, then a workout this evening. On days like today, I'm finding I love a hearty tofu scramble loaded with veggies and a touch of vegan cheese.

Doing a fear food challenge with a client this morning, so I get to indulge in a homemade vegan gluten-free scone, as well.

Not a bad way to start the day!

Friends, remember to take care of yourselves as much as possible right now.

No skipping meals. It's ok to keep those meals simple.

Find ways to regulate your nervous system, even if it feels like you're just maintaining status quo. Go for mental health walks or runs. Try a boxing class or find a smash gym (if you're local to me, DM for a recommendation). Take some deep breaths. It might feel like spinning your wheels, but it's better than feeling like things are spinning out of control.

In case you're wondering, leftovers were chickpea pasta with marinara sauce, beyond burger, and roasted veggies. Simple. And delicious.

Keep showing up for what's right.

Have you heard the phrase, "Test, don't guess"? It's something I hear often from wellness influencers and health coaches.

Testing can be great! It tells us more information about what's going on inside your body and helps us assess your risk for different diseases or chronic conditions. It can also help doctors adjust medication dosing or recommend supplementation to correct deficiencies like vitamin D or iron.

But... most of the time, the people promoting these tests are not qualified to interpret the results and recommend appropriate changes to your diet, lifestyle, supplements, or medications.

For example, did you know that high LDL cholesterol can be sign that you're not eating enough? High blood glucose (A1c) is more common than you think among endurance athletes, but a low carbohydrate diet isn't appropriate for this population.

Only qualified healthcare providers (medical doctors, nurse practitioners, or physician assistants—not health coaches, holistic practitioners, or dietitians) can diagnose conditions, prescribe medication, or change your medication dosage.

But dietitians can look at the bigger picture and help you make diet and lifestyle changes over time to improve your numbers. Dietitians can also coordinate care with your P*P and help you advocate for yourself (e.g. pursuing additional testing or treatment modalities).

Insurance will cover the most helpful and accurate tests, either fully or partially.

Meanwhile, many "holistic practitioners" push tests with little or no scientific backing. These tests are expensive and don't actually provide useful information. The people selling these tests almost always want to sell you expensive supplements or protocols, too.

Remember, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is, and no, there isn't some secret, magic test or supplement that will fix everything and make you super human.

If you still have questions about testing, drop them in the comments or reach out to me directly. I'm always happy to chat!

✨ Happy Registered Dietitian Nutritionist Day! ✨

In case you don't already know, it takes a lot to become a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist. While anyone can call themselves a nutritionist, RDNs go through a lot of school, training, and continuing education to be able to provide high quality, evidence-based care.

We're trained to evaluate current scientific studies, interpret data, and figure out how to apply that information in everyday life in terms of what people are eating and drinking. Sometimes we can make recommendations for the general public. More often than not, if you ask us a question about health or nutrition, our answer will be, "it depends..." Because your health is individual to you, and your needs will change over time. Any advice you receive shouldn't be based on vibes, fads, or trends or even what your neighbor or your friend at the gym was told.

Nutrition counseling is the process by which dietitians evaluate your current health, any medications or supplements you're taking, what you're eating and drinking, and how you're moving your body. Then we work together to build a plan that works for you, your life, and your goals. It's an incredibly supportive, individualized process that will change your life.
