How does that saying go? Courage isn't the absence of fear, but the ability to move through it? Sometimes in recovery work, fear signals that you are approaching something important. Waiting for the fear to go away and letting your fear of being afraid keep you motionless is going to keep you in the endless loop of your eating disorder.

That doesn't mean its easy. You can ask for help, be it your treatment team or friends and loved ones. Stick your hand out and ask someone to hold it for you, take a deep breath, and keep going.

A slip will teach you something, humble you, and maybe scare you a little. You can get up. Lean on others for support, if you have to. It is going to be ok.

If you're feeling dysregulated, try a quick check in to assess if are you hungry, angry, lonely or tired—also known as HALT.

HALT is a great self-check tool for those in recovery to assess both physical and emotional needs. And, not always (but often), if you're living with an eating disorder, a lot of those physical and emotional needs are going to show up as things like missing meals. And that is likely to take you down the rabbit hole of behaviors, whether it's more restriction, binging, B/P, or avoidance.

There are a lot of great tools out there to support recovery, and working with an eating disorder specialized RD is a good way to learn about some of them! If you're in CA looking for virtual nutrition therapy, reach out! I'd love to work with you.

I did a thing!

So grateful to speak on behalf of Reasons at the conference outside of Boston earlier this month. This was my second time attending, and it’s really a fabulous gathering of minds and dedicated practitioners.
