A major practice in Authentic Relating is sticking to your side of the street and making sure you always share your own experience. This practice allows and invites more space for both experiences, yours and your partner’s. Here's a few simple tips.
đź’ SHARE IT
Speak from the "I". Stay away from the general "we" or accusatory "you".
đź’ OWN IT
Instead of outsourcing your feelings, "You make me uncomfortable”, claim it by saying something like, "Being with you, I feel uncomfortable”.
đź’ REVEAL IT
You can offer context so your partner knows what's happening in your world. For example, "When you raise your voice suddenly, I feel uncomfortable.” If you choose to go deeper, you can reveal a bit more of your experience and say something like, "When I hear loud voices, I feel uncomfortable because of my childhood wound. When my parents raised their voices it almost always meant I was in trouble one way or another."
Join us in practicing this coming Friday Oct. 28th from 6-9pm! We have a few spots left. Register on Eventbrite to receive address: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/440628149657
