Music reveals the human experience … but what would the music landscape look if more artists had chronic illnesses or wrote about their chronic illnesses?⁣

I played around with that idea and made some SPOONIE ALBUM COVERS! 🎶⁣

What Spoonie song would break your Top 100?⁣

Growing up, I wanted to be Marty McFly. Played in a band, had a cute girlfriend, his best friend was a disgraced physicist, and oh yeah, he time traveled. What wasn’t there to like?⁣

Now, sitting at 33 and nearing my 14th POTS anniversary, I want to be Michael J. Fox. ⁣

𝘏𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘥 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘺 𝘩𝘪𝘮 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺?⁣

If not, you should, because they contain beautiful insights like this that can only be realized after spending the last three decades battling Parkinson’s.⁣

In the longer quote, he admits that living with a chronic disease will be a drag (major understatement) and there will be a lot to deal with, but what he needed to hear at 29 was that he was going to have a great life regardless of all the crap. ⁣

It’s fascinating to hear what others wish they had heard at the beginning of their journey, because they’re all different. For some, it’s practical advice that took them too long to figure out on their own. For others, it’s a loving hug saying that it’s ok and normal to morn for the life you had. And for those like Alex P. Keaton, it’s that the future may look daunting, but it’ll still be a great life. ⁣

If you couldn’t tell, I’m very passionate about this question because hearing ANY of these at the beginning of my POTS journey 14 years ago would have made a world of difference. So of course I ask it to every guest on my podcast!⁣

Oh boy, this was a long caption! If you’ve made it this far, I’d love to hear what you wish you had known at the beginning of your journey! Comment below or reply in my story if you want some anonymity!⁣

Note to the medical community: Every new diagnosis should come with a link to your illness-specific shirt from 👚⁣

I had the pleasure getting to know Michelle, founder of The Spoonie Sister Shop, on the latest episode of The Chronic Illness Playbook!⁣

It’s my first DIRECT-TO-SPOONIE episode where we talk to Spoonie-run business owners whose products, courses, or just donations benefit the chronic illness community.⁣

Ever wonder how to turn your passion into a business and help your fellow Spoonie at the same time? Me, too! And we’re going to find out together!⁣

So go SUBSCRIBE wherever you listen to podcasts! And follow Michelle if you haven’t already (but who am I kidding, if you’re following me then OF COURSE you’re already following The Spoonie Sister Shop)!⁣

I thought I was prepared for a medical emergency, until I met Brandon! Brandon is a seasoned pro who has two hospital bags ready at all times: one in his car for appointments, and another on standby for urgent visits to the hospital.

When a medical emergency strikes, the last thing you want to do is waste any time frantically searching for that right charger or a clean pair of socks (that might be more of a boy problem, to be honest).

Here is what Brandon has in his hospital go bags, what about you? What are your must-haves that we’re missing here?

If you have a young Spoonie in your life, they 𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 need to listen to Becca’s episode.⁣

Before Becca stepped onto the basketball court for the first time in years, she struggled with chronic illness throughout her high school career. Now, high school is difficult enough on it’s own, without adding in the extra stress of a chronic illness, but thankfully Becca persevered and came away with some very helpful tips.⁣

In Becca’s episode, you’ll hear her compassion for others, wanting her story to help those going through the struggles she went through. I think you’ll agree that her insight and perspective has the chance to help a lot of young Spoonies out there.
