In June I paid for a review of IN NATURE WE TRUST from a professional Publishers Weekly reviewer.
Reviews like this arrive private. You read yours, alone, and then you choose. Publish it and it is permanent. There is no retraction.
The reviewer said my book "favors absolute certainties, repetition, and motivational intensity over nuance." (BookLife Reviews)
I published it anyway.
Twenty-one years of my medical records are already public because I believe you should judge the evidence, not the man. A review I only show you when it flatters me is not a review. It is an advertisement.
So here is all of it.
The praise: "Great for fans of Michael Greger's How Not to Die." (BookLife Reviews)
The pushback: read the third paragraph.
The grades: Editing B+. Marketing copy A. Cover B. The cover is already being redesigned.
It runs in Publishers Weekly on August 17.

Bryan Johnson just shared that he's been diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. And my first reaction wasn't analysis. It was respect.

We walk very different paths. His is sensors, data, and a team of thirty doctors tracking a hundred biomarkers. Mine is simpler: whole, raw, natural food, and over 16 years of listening to my own body.

But we're climbing the same mountain. Both of us refuse to accept that decline is just something you surrender to. Both of us believe the human body deserves better than we've been told to expect.

So today I'm not writing as someone with a different method. I'm writing as a fellow traveler who admires the man.

Bryan, it takes real courage to experiment on yourself in full public view, to walk knowingly into the fire, and then to share the results openly so the rest of us can learn. Most people protect their image. You put yourself on the line instead. That is rare, and it matters.

And I'll be honest. Reading his news, I paused. This could happen to any of us. None of us stands above our own biology, no matter how carefully we live. That humility is worth sitting with.

So from one researcher to another, one person who refuses to give up to another: I salute your courage, Bryan. Get well soon, warrior. The work you do matters, and the world needs you in it. 🙏
