Reiki derives from the belief that every living being emits an energy field, a belief supported by multiple scientific studies on resonance and frequency. When we as human beings experience dis-ease, that energy field becomes imbalanced. It is Chi in China, Prana in Hindu India, Mana in Hawaii, Ruah in Hebrew, Vitality in Western Philosophy, and even The Force in popular culture. The goal of Reiki is to keep energy flowing throughout the mind, body and spirit in order to achieve perfect harmony. Studies have shown that Reiki can reduce stress, lower blood pressure, relieve insomnia, and accelerate the body’s natural healing processes. Consequently, a Reiki practice can be beneficial for those who have suffered physical injury or illness, are recovering from surgery, or experiencing psychological imbalances or emotional pain. For the month of August, I am stepping away from seeing clients in the office so I can devote my time to…finishing my dissertation.

Reaching this stage feels like a huge milestone. After years of research, writing, and revision, I am finally so close to the finish line, and I want to give these final pages the focus they deserve.

In the heart of Chinatown, Los Angeles, is someone I’m endlessly grateful for—Dr. Hui. ❤️

For years, she’s helped me navigate grief, hormonal changes, and life’s many transitions with incredible care and wisdom.

She’s one of the few traditional Chinese medicine doctors I know who still prepares raw herbal formulas by hand rather than relying on pre-ground herbal pills. Every prescription is thoughtfully assembled in her apothecary, preserving a tradition that has endured for generations.

Another chapter complete ✨✨✨✨✨

Today I completed Pacifica Graduate Institute’s Chinese Medicine and Depth Psychology microcredential program.

Chinese Medicine is something I grew up with in Hong Kong, making this course especially meaningful. It is also deeply relevant to my work as a Reiki practitioner, as the concept of qi (氣) in Chinese Medicine and ki in Japanese Reiki both refer to the vital life force that animates the human being. While each tradition developed its own philosophy and methods of healing, both recognize the importance of working with the body’s energetic nature. More importantly, the course allowed me to connect my doctoral work in Depth Psychology with my own Chinese cultural heritage. It reminded me that medicine does not exist apart from culture but emerges from a civilization’s mythology, cosmology, and understanding of what it means to be human.

If you’ve ever been curious about Pacifica but aren’t looking to pursue a full graduate degree, I highly recommend exploring Pacifica Extension & International Studies. Their microcredentials, certificate programs, and continuing education courses offer a wonderful opportunity to study specialized topics with leading scholars. While they are not a replacement for a graduate degree, they are an excellent way to deepen your knowledge in a focused area and continue learning throughout your career.

As most of you know, this subject is very close to my heart after losing our home in the Eaton Canyon fires.

Please take a moment to read this important Los Angeles Times article about ongoing toxic soil concerns in Altadena. After privately testing our own soil, we discovered PFAS levels reportedly thousands of times above EPA advisory guidelines. It was heartbreaking and deeply unsettling to learn.

I truly believe our community deserves transparency, awareness, and the ability to make informed decisions about our health, homes, and future.

It’s hard to believe how many years I’ve been doing this work, but this is the first time since Covid that I’ve redesigned an advertisement image for my business.

Friends, family, and clients may start seeing these around Pasadena, where my new office is now located. Seeing this new chapter slowly take physical shape in the world feels both surreal and deeply meaningful to me.

My practice is rooted in energy healing, mythology, cultural consciousness, and over twenty years of experience in the intuitive arts.

For my Dad’s 80th birthday, I went to to help me create bouquets for his special celebration. Yellow roses was a must as it was my Grandfather’s favorite flower and one of my Dad’s favorite memories of him. Julie is an incredible creative who not only achieved the rose dream but heightened the design with Pincushion Proteas! To top the design off, the silver dollar eucalyptus makes this bouquet smell divine! Thank you so much !
