The Clancy case coverage kept skipping past the part I couldn’t stop thinking about: the mental load. So I got into it with Joel Waldman. When moms are expected to do everything, how can we say these relationships are equitable?

Asking “How can I help?” may feel supportive but it’s actually another task for her to manage. The partners who actually help don’t ask. They initiate. They take the baby to the pediatrician appointment. They handle the school pickup. They notice what needs doing and do it.

Patrick Clancy also said he didn’t know what psychosis even looked like until it was too late. In my personal opinion, partners need to be educated alongside the mother, present at every appointment, and given a real plan for what support looks like in those first six months. That kind of education is critical for the whole family.

This isn’t just Lindsay Clancy’s story. It’s the story of every mother who’s been left to run the house and hide how much she’s struggling. The load doesn’t lighten because no one talks about it. Someone has to carry it, but we can’t do this alone anymore.
