Even though I am now very health conscious, I struggled with making more nutritious options. My household was always filled with tempting artery clogging food and, when my family grew smaller, my parents, who were off at work, would leave me 6 bucks or so to buy myself something to eat. Fast food was obviously the first option for a growing teenager who wanted more bang for her buck. It was cheap,
easy to come by, and it tasted pretty good (of course, now I know that most of that was MSG and Artificial Flavoring yikes!) Even after I developed several food allergies in my early teen, I was hooked on fast food. Not even allergies stopped me from delving into a large order of fries and pizza or a double cheeseburger with supersize french fries and a Oreo Mcflurry. In addition to my food allergies, my poor eating habits created a much heftier version of me. After I graduated High School, I moved out to West Hollywood to work at a very prestigious hair salon as a Salon Manager at Jonathan Salon. I went to College part-time since I was a FULL time employee. I worked there for 7 wonderful years, met amazing people, and had a really great learning experience.I learned a lot about how to run a business, how to be a manager how to deal with different people with different needs. It was a character building experience for me that I will be forever grateful for. Through this time, I became more aware of my health (working in the beauty industry can do this). And I really fell in love with learning about food and nutrition. In 2006, in an effort to help with my Marathon training I began practicing Yoga. I practiced frequently in the coming years as I ended up running for three consecutive years. As time went on my love for my yoga practice deepened. After 7 years of working in the beauty industry I was granted an amazing opportunity to work for America’s ultimate Fitness Guru. I learned so much from my experience, which just solidified all the things I learned about Health and Wellness. In 2011 I decided to quit my job complete my YogaWorks Teacher Certification and finish my College degree so that it would allow me to focus on the things that are important to me and the things that I love to do which is to do and teach Yoga and write about Healthy Mexican Food.
