ADHD community matters.

Community does not replace diagnosis, treatment, coaching, or other professional support. But it can offer something equally meaningful: the experience of being seen, understood, and reminded that we are not navigating ADHD alone.

In the newest episode of ADHDtime on Air, I talk with my friend and colleague Suzanne Sophos, CMPSS, president of CHADD’s national board of directors and founder of The BRAVE Space.

We discuss why peer support matters, finding belonging after an ADHD or autism diagnosis, Suzanne’s experience as an AuDHD adult, and the importance of understanding ourselves before trying to build systems that fit our lives.

We also explore authentic neurodivergent representation, what social media gets right and wrong about ADHD, and why advocacy and education are still so necessary.

Can AI support executive functioning without replacing the skills we still need to develop?

In Episode 19, I sit down with Michael Delman, founder and CEO of Beyond BookSmart and author of Your Kid’s Gonna Be Okay, to explore executive functions in the age of AI.

https://adhdtimeonair.riverside.com

We talk about how AI can help ADHDers organize ideas, reduce writing barriers, and make divergent thinking more visible. We also discuss the risks of overreliance, inaccurate information, compulsive use, and allowing technology to do too much of our thinking for us.

Michael offers a helpful way to evaluate how we use these tools: If AI is still pushing you to think and work, you are probably using it well. If everything is becoming too easy, it may be time to pause.

Our conversation also turns to parenting, including how to support children without solving every problem for them and why our own emotional state matters when they are overwhelmed.

πŸ“’ I’d love πŸ’œ to hear how you are using AI to support your executive functions.

Why is it so hard to do something we genuinely want to do?

In this episode, I sit down with ADHD coach and author Brendan Mahan, MEd, MS to explore his well-known Wall of Awfulβ„’ model and why what looks like procrastination is often much more than simply putting things off.

We talk about why repeated setbacks create emotional barriers, how self-compassion can help us move forward, why change is rarely linear, and practical strategies for getting past the Wall of Awful without relying on shame or self-criticism.

One of the most helpful ideas Brendan shared is that we don't need to stop struggling. We need to stop carrying shame while we struggle.

If you've ever wondered why some tasks feel so much harder than they should, I think you'll find this conversation both validating and practical.

πŸŽ™οΈ New Episode of ADHDtime on Air!

What if one of the most common parenting strategies for ADHD is also one of the least effective for building lasting skills?

In Episode 17 of ADHDtime on Air, I sit down with fellow ADHD coach Mary Smith to discuss why rewards and punishments may not be the best approach for supporting children with ADHD.

Instead, we explore what it looks like to focus on skill development, internal motivation, emotional regulation, and realistic expectations, while also supporting parents through the challenges of burnout.

In this episode, we discuss:
β€’ Why ADHD is a developmental disorder rather than simply a behavior problem
β€’ Why rewards and punishments often backfire
β€’ Building skills instead of chasing compliance
β€’ Practical strategies for reducing parent burnout
β€’ Creating a supportive home environment where children can thrive

Whether you're a parent, educator, coach, or clinician, I hope you'll find practical ideas that you can apply right away.

πŸ€– Can AI actually make life easier for people with ADHD?

In this week's episode of ADHDtime on Air, I sit down with Bram De Buyser, the creator of Goblin Tools, a collection of AI-powered tools used by nearly 2 million people each month to support executive functioning.

We talk about:
πŸ’œ How Goblin Tools was created
πŸ’œ Why reducing activation energy matters more than increasing motivation
πŸ’œ How AI can support executive functioning without replacing human thinking
πŸ’œ The future of AI for ADHD and neurodivergent individuals

A personal note: This episode is not sponsored. I invited Bram because I genuinely use Goblin Tools myself and regularly recommend it to coaching clients when it's an appropriate fit. The web version is free, and the mobile app is available for a one-time purchase of about $3, with no subscription required.

If you're curious about practical ways AI can reduce everyday friction, I hope you'll enjoy this conversation.

πŸŽ™οΈ New episode of ADHDtime on Air is now live!

Parenting a child with ADHD doesn't come with a manual, but it does get easier when we understand why our children struggle and how we can support them without taking over.

In this week's episode, I sit down with Leslie Josel, founder of Order Out of Chaos, to talk about practical, evidence-based strategies for raising confident, capable children with ADHD.

Together we discuss:
πŸ’œ Executive age and why expectations matter
πŸ’œ Helping children build independence
πŸ’œ The difference between scaffolding and over-parenting
πŸ’œ Why giving kids more agency can reduce anxiety and increase motivation
πŸ’œ Parenting from childhood through young adulthood

Whether you're raising a young child, a teenager, or a young adult, I think you'll come away with practical ideas you can start using today.

I had one of those moments where I had to pause and smile. πŸ’œ

In her latest YouTube video, Jessica McCabe from How to ADHD talks about one of the biggest mistakes people with ADHD make during life transitions, and she generously credits me for introducing her to this perspective.

ife transitions have become one of my favorite areas to coach because they're often when ADHD challenges become the most visible. Starting college, changing jobs, becoming a parent, receiving a diagnosis, retiring... every transition changes the demands on our executive functions.

One of the biggest mistakes we make is expecting our old systems to work in a completely new reality.

When that doesn't happen, many people assume they're failing. In reality, their systems simply haven't evolved to match the transition.

I'm so grateful to Jessica for sharing this idea with her audience and for the kind acknowledgment.

If you have ADHD, you probably know exactly what you should be doing. The challenge is often getting started.

In this conversation, I sit down with Dr. Russell Ramsay, psychologist, researcher, and author of Once I Get Started, to discuss cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) for ADHD, procrastination, perfectionism, emotional regulation, self-talk, and the gap between intention and action.

We also explore the concepts of "enoughness," adaptive thinking, and why being your own defense attorney may be one of the most helpful tools for challenging self-criticism.

This was a thoughtful, practical, and encouraging conversation that I think will resonate with many adults with ADHD.
