A few weeks ago, we did a lesson about rolling from our back to one side and then to the other. This week we will continue this inquiry to explore how we can go From Lying to Sitting and back down again. As in the rolling lesson we are getting back in touch with movements that we did naturally as babies, i.e. developmental movements. Please join us as we look for ease, comfort and pleasure as we move, explore and discover.

Feldenkrais this Week
Last week we explored Flexion: rounding, folding forward, lengthening the back as we soften and shorten the front. This week we will play with Extension: our ability to look up, reach up, and bend gently backwards, lengthening the front of our body and activating the muscles of the back. You will be lying on the floor, part of the time on your belly exploring ways to make extension easier and then on your back, rounding and releasing any unnecessary work and tension. Looking forward to seeing you in class.

Feldenkrais this Week: Don’t Slump?
We are often told not to slump. It’s bad for your posture, your spine, your neck; it’s a position of defeat, of giving up. Don’t slump! Don’t Slouch! And yet, we need to be able to round and lengthen our back, tilt our pelvis back and soften our front – it’s called flexion -- as much as we need to be able to do the opposite – it’s called extension – where our lower back and neck arch and our front lengthens as the back muscles work and contract. In order to be comfortably upright we need to be able to both flex and extend. This week we’ll focus on improving our ability to flex and round, but we’ll do it lying on our side which makes it a totally different experience. I hope you’ll be able to join us.

This week we will focus on the Joy of Rolling. Yes, rolling! We will explore several different ways of rolling from our side to our back and from our back to the other side. Rolling, when done gently, with curiosity and awareness, can feel wonderful, comforting, delicious. It lowers muscle tone and helps to reduce tension throughout the body. We were experts at it when we were babies. I hope you will join us as we rediscover and reclaim some of that expertise.

Weekly Feldenkrais

Having focused on the upper body for several lessons, this week we'll be doing a lesson that focuses on the feet, ankles, knees and hip joints. We will work on improving the mobility in our ankles and see how that can positively affect our knees and hip joints so we can stand with more ease and comfort and walk with more fluidity and power.

You'll be lying on the floor on your back and on your belly. Have a good mat and some extra padding (towels, cushions or pillows) for comfort. Hope to see you in class.
