If your loved one with dementia becomes more confused or agitated in the late afternoon, you're not imagining it. It's called sundowning, and it's one of the most challenging parts of dementia care.

A few things that genuinely help:
Get morning light exposure early in the day, schedule harder tasks like bathing and appointments in the morning, keep late afternoons calm, quiet, and familiar, stick to a consistent evening routine, and avoid caffeine after noon.

Sundowning is manageable with the right consistency and support. You don't have to figure it out alone. 💙

We have caregivers trained in dementia support. Reach out to us today, Let us help!

Pressure sores can begin quietly, but they can become painful and serious very quickly. For a person living with dementia, the risk may be even greater because they may not recognize discomfort, remember to reposition themselves, or be able to tell us clearly that something hurts.

Prevention often lives in the small things we do consistently: helping someone change position, checking vulnerable skin every day, keeping skin clean and dry, supporting good nutrition and hydration, reducing friction, and paying attention to changes in behavior. Restlessness, pulling at clothing, resisting care, withdrawing, or repeatedly shifting position may not simply be “behaviors.” They may be communication.

And perhaps that is the most important reminder: when words become harder, the body may speak for them.

Pressure sore prevention is not only about protecting skin. It is about preventing unnecessary pain and preserving comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

Small acts of care matter. 💜

It doesn't take a dramatic change for a home to start feeling unmanageable. Dishes that take longer, laundry that piles up, floors that don't get swept as often. Nothing alarming on its own, but together, these things quietly add to the stress of daily life.

Clutter near walkways increases fall risk. A clean kitchen encourages eating. A home that feels cared for lifts mood in ways that are hard to quantify but easy to notice.

Our caregivers handle the daily maintenance that keeps a home livable, often working alongside their client rather than around them. It stays a home, not a care environment.

They raised families, kept neighborhoods together, coached the teams, built the businesses, and showed up for their communities in ways that held everything else in place. And many of them are still doing it. Still sharp, still full of opinions and stories and humor, still deeply engaged in the people around them.

Home Care isn't about losing independence. It's about honoring who our seniors still are.
At Touching Hearts at Home, that's exactly how we approach every client. Not as a condition to be managed, but as a person to be known.

Is it time for home care?
Sometimes the signs are small at first. Maybe Mom isn’t cooking like she used to. Dad seems a little less steady on his feet. The house isn’t quite as tidy, medications aren't getting taken as they should, or you’re finding yourself checking in more and more.
Home care doesn’t have to mean giving up independence. In fact, we can help your loved one stay independent at home longer.
It may be time to consider a little extra support if you’re noticing:
❤️ Difficulty with bathing, dressing, or personal care
❤️ Changes in meals, nutrition, or household upkeep
❤️ Increased forgetfulness or confusion
❤️ Trouble getting around safely
❤️ Loneliness or less interest in usual activities
❤️ Family caregivers feeling overwhelmed or stretched thin
Sometimes, just a few days of extra help can make a big difference.
If you’re wondering whether home care could be the right next step for your family, Touching Hearts at Home is here to help you talk through your options.
