APhA-ASP was so thankful to have Shawn M Dawley come speak on leadership today. Some key take aways from today's presentation were:

~ The best leaders have empathy for others and make an effort to regulate their emotional responses in a disregulating environment.
~ Making the effort to let others know they are more important than what they can do for you will establish deeper connections and create a more positive environment.

This presentation was incredibly engaging and delivered a message that is important for people of all backgrounds to hear. Thank you, Shawn, for helping future pharmacists grow in their knowledge about authentic leadership!🌟

Sullivan University College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences chapter of APHA-ASP recruited volunteers to help out at a health fair this past Saturday hosted by Foundations Family Medicine. We were able to provide blood glucose checks and education about lifestyle changes that can keep blood sugar low. 🩸
We also educated on vaccinations that are important for diabetic patients and what an appropriate blood glucose reading is according to the American Diabetes Association.

Huge thank you to everyone who helped to organize the health fair and for letting students from SUCOPHS help out!

APhA-ASP President and Vice President, Jenna and Eden, attended a Hoosier Action town hall event concerning the effects of substance use disorder and the opioid epidemic on New Albany, Indiana. Multiple legislative members were present to discuss their plans for New Albany to help the families afflicted and the community. People recovering from substance use disorder shared their personal stories and a naloxone (Narcan) training was provided to all in attendance of the event. This event was powerful and the officers of APhA at Sullivan University plan to increase student involvement with events similar to this!

APhA-ASP President, Jenna Brophy, created and hosted an amazing new event at Sullivan University on Wednesday evening. "Pharmacist Idol" was a chance for students to create an elevator pitch and give it their best go in front of our lovely professors who volunteered to judge and classmates who were able to provide tons of positive feedback. The event was a hit!

Lots of laughs, tons of encouragement, and PLENTY of pizza to go around. All around great experience for students to practice public speaking and get feedback on how to best pitch themselves to potential employers. It's safe to say that we will definitely be hosting Pharmacist Idol for years to come!

Sullivan students volunteered with U of L Pharmacy again this past weekend at Redeemer Lutheran Church's annual Health Fair. We aided in administration of vaccinations for flu, COVID, and pneumonia. We are so happy to have this collaboration with U of L Pharmacy allowing hands on health care opportunities for Sullivan students!

Sullivan students from multiple organizations, including our very own APhA-ASP members, were able to partner with U of L Health at the Kentucky State Fair. We did free blood pressure checks, counseling on what the blood pressure meant and ways to achieve a healthy blood pressure, and passed out educational material on diabetes and hypertension. Big thanks to UofL Health for giving Sullivan students this opportunity to help out!
