Foundations Functional Health I help people identify and restore the physiological reserves that protect them from chronic disease, fatigue, accelerated aging and declining health

06/27/2026

As a physical therapist, I've spent years helping people recover after the heart attack, after the stroke, after the joint replacement, and after chronic disease has already changed their lives.

It's one of the biggest reasons I became a functional medicine practitioner. I don't want to meet people when it's already too late.
I want to meet them before the diagnosis.

You go to the doctor because you're exhausted.
Your blood sugar is creeping up.
Your cholesterol is elevated.
Your blood pressure is higher than it should be.

You leave with a diagnosis and often a prescription.

But what's actually going on in your body? Why did it happen in the first place?

Long before someone is diagnosed with prediabetes, hypertension, or high cholesterol, the body has usually been sending signals for years.

✔️ Chronic inflammation
✔️ Blood sugar dysregulation
✔️ Gut microbiome imbalances
✔️ Increased intestinal permeability ("leaky gut")
✔️ Oxidative stress
✔️ Poor detoxification
✔️ Chronic stress and cortisol dysregulation
✔️ Nutrient deficiencies
✔️ Neurotransmitter imbalances

These are often the processes that gradually erode your metabolic health, not overnight, but over years. Functional medicine focuses on identifying and addressing these underlying contributors rather than only managing symptoms.

That's where my approach is different.

As a Doctor of Physical Therapy and Functional Medicine Practitioner, I use advanced functional lab testing to understand how your body is functioning, not just whether your lab values have crossed into the disease range.

Then we create a personalized roadmap using evidence-informed lifestyle strategies:
🥗 Nutrition
💪 Exercise
😴 Quality sleep
🧘 Stress management
🦠 Gut health support
📊 Targeted lab interpretation

The goal isn't to chase symptoms.

The goal is to build metabolic resilience so your body has the capacity to stay healthy for decades to come.

Investing in functional medicine isn't simply investing in a lab test.

It's investing in your future self.

The healthiest retirement isn't measured by your bank account.

It's measured by whether you're still hiking, traveling, playing with your grandchildren, lifting weights, gardening, and doing the things you love because you chose to invest in your health before disease took those choices away.

Preventing chronic disease starts long before a diagnosis.

Let's build your health from the inside out.

Disease doesn't start with diagnosis...

Osteoporosis starts before the fracture. Diabetes starts before the elevated A1c. Heart disease starts before the heart attack. Autoimmune disease starts before the diagnosis.

The body often whispers long before it screams.

Fatigue
Brain fog
Poor recovery
Digestive issues
Sleep disruption
Weight loss resistance

These aren't random symptoms. They can be early signs your metabolic reserve is declining.

The best time to intervene is BEFORE disease develops.

Most chronic diseases don't appear overnight. They develop after years of declining metabolic reserve. My job is to help identify those changes early, build resilience, and create a foundation for long-term health, vitality, and independence. Let's chat.

As a physical therapist and functional medicine practitioner, I am fascinated by a simple question:

Why do some athletes continue adapting while others plateau, get injured, or burn out?

I believe the answer often lies beneath the surface - in our metabolic reserve.

The ability of our cells, tissues, and organ systems to respond to and recover from repeated stress.

Over the next few weeks, I'll be sharing more about metabolic resilience, recovery physiology, mitochondrial health, and how tools like organic acids testing can help us better understand performance from the inside out.

If you're an athlete, coach, or someone who simply wants to perform at a higher level for longer, I'd love to hear:

What's been your biggest challenge with recovery? 👇

Most people think about health in terms of disease- I think about health in terms of resilience.

When life is stressful, injury happens, sleep is poor, nutrition is poor and emotional hardships won’t let up, how much reserve does your body have to adapt and recover??

Chronic disease doesn’t happen overnight. It develops when our reserves slowly become depleted.

In my work I focus on identifying and rebuilding the reserves that support long term health and disease prevention.

Mitochondrial energy production
Antioxidant capacity
Micronutrient reserve
Insulin sensitivity
Liver detoxification pathways

This is why lifestyle medicine is the foundation of everything I do.

Exercise, nutrition, sleep, stress management, circadian rhythm, social connection, purpose, and reducing toxic burdens aren’t just healthy habits. They are biological signals that activate the body’s mechanism for repair, adaptation and resilience.

My goal is to help people build the metabolic reserve necessary to remain healthy for decades to come 🫶

My introduction to functional medicine is deeply personal.

For years I struggled with fatigue, bloating, hormonal acne, painful periods, hair loss, low libido, Raynauds, mood swings and weight gain.

At the same time I was navigating caregiving, working through the pandemic in acute care, dealing with burnout and eventually a divorce.

But the body tells a story- symptoms are often connected through the stress response, gut health, inflammation and hormone balance.

That journey became the foundation for the work I do today.

If you’ve been feeling like your body has changed and nobody can explain why, you’re not alone.

Send me an email, shoot me a txt. Let’s figure this out together.

Brain fog, low motivation, poor sleep and weight loss resistance don’t always start with your hormones.

Sometimes the root cause is hiding in your metabolism, gut microbiome, nutrient status, detox pathways or neurotransmitter production.

One of my favorite tools for investigating these deeper imbalances is the Organic Acids Test.

This test provides insight into :

Women are being told chronic stress is “normal.”
And nobody is talking about what it actually steals.

The racing mind at 2 AM.
The exhaustion that sleep doesn’t fix.
The irritability.
The anxiety.
The feeling of being constantly “on.”

And intimacy.

Because intimacy doesn’t happen when the body feels unsafe.

When cortisol stays elevated for too long, the nervous system can get stuck in “fight or flight” mode , a state designed for survival, not connection. Functional medicine recognizes that chronic stress impacts s*x hormones, neurotransmitters, sleep, mood, thyroid function, and the parasympathetic nervous system (the system responsible for rest, repair, digestion, and intimacy).

This can look like:
• low libido
• difficulty relaxing or “shutting off”
• feeling touched out or overstimulated
• emotional disconnect
• anxiety around intimacy
• exhaustion despite wanting connection
• feeling guilty because your mind and body aren’t aligned

This does not mean you are broken.

For many women, the body is simply overwhelmed.

Stress isn’t just emotional either.
It can also come from:
• blood sugar crashes
• inflammation
• gut dysfunction
• hidden infections
• toxins
• poor sleep
• overtraining
• chronic mental load

Over time, elevated cortisol can suppress s*x hormone function, disrupt sleep, increase insulin resistance, worsen inflammation, and keep the body locked in a catabolic “survival” state.

This is why healing often starts with helping the body feel safe again:
• stabilizing blood sugar
• improving sleep quality
• supporting the nervous system
• reducing inflammation
• healing the gut
• restoring resilience and recovery

Women don’t need more shame around stress. We need support that addresses what chronic stress is actually doing to the body.

Hello friends!! I know I have been a bit quiet lately. I am continuing with my journey of transitions and I have an exciting announcement to make!

Next month I will be joining a wellness clinic in Louisville, KY. I am beyond thrilled with this opportunity. I will be working alongside an acupuncturist whose focus is on women's health and fertility as well as two amazingly talented body workers whose talents range from Reiki, Ta**ra, Havening technique, Midwife, Yoga Teacher (specializing in prenatal, birth and postpartum), Thai Massage... I could go on.

Joining this clinic will give me time to put more focus and intention on this business that brings me so much joy and is so rewarding. I am looking forward to this transition. Its one step closer to me working full time as a functional medicine practitioner.

Sending so much love and gratitude for all the support I have received from this community. I still plan to offer virtual appointments to serve all my hometown folks :)

Meal prepping doesn’t have to be time consuming. This weekend I tried to be present, enjoying time with friends and being outside in nature. So my Sunday meal prep looks simple today because I want to get to the creek this afternoon!

Simple roasted veggies, fruit and some chicken I threw on the grill will provide a healthy lunch all week. I’ll throw in a simple salad and some fermented veggies on the side.

Eating healthy doesn’t have to be fancy all the time. Simple steps like this have saved me from eating like crap through the week.
