Dear Readers,

It is with a heavy heart that I share the tragic passing of a community member and mother. This heartbreaking loss also reminds us of the importance of mental health support for caregivers, especially those navigating complex and ongoing challenges.

Raising children is never easy, and raising children with special needs comes with added emotional, educational, and systemic demands. As a parent myself, I continue to experience firsthand the ongoing, exhausting advocacy required within school systems, particularly around IEPs, access to appropriate supports, and the consistent implementation of services that children are legally entitled to under Massachusetts law, leave a lone everything else that families do, day in and day out, for children with special needs.

Many families face even greater barriers, including cultural adjustment, limited support systems, language barriers, racism, and systemic inequities. These challenges can feel overwhelming and isolating.

Glow In The Dark Lowell-GTDL was created to respond to these realities, and we need your support to continue this work.

I invite you to join us, whether as a board member, volunteer, partner, or supporter. Your time, ideas, and resources can help build a safer, more inclusive space for families who need it most.

Please join us in giving our Summer 2026 intern Danielle Bailey a warm welcome!

Message from Danielle:

Hello! My name is Danielle Bailey (she/her), and I am a senior English studies student at UMass Lowell. I have recently begun working with Glow in the Dark Lowell as an intern through UML’s Grant Writing Assistance & Internships for Nonprofits (GAIN) program.
I have also worked as an alpha and sensitivity reader and promoter for independent author Kayla Maurais on her two novels Soul Sucker and Violet Moon. I received my associate’s degree from Holyoke Community College in 2022.
When I am not working, I enjoy listening to music, watching (often delightfully bad!) movies, and spending time with my friends and my senior cat, Luna.
I have always had a passion for social engagement, so GTDL feels like the ideal place for me to grow as an intern this summer. I look forward to learning and making an impact with GTDL!

Elopement Awareness Session!

Calling all families and neighbors to join us for a relaxed, supportive space to connect, learn, and take home helpful tools.

On April 11, 2026. From 9–11 AM

We’ll be having an important conversation about:
What elopement is
Why it happens
How to support our children with safety, and understanding

Light breakfast provided. Free luminous tags, trail markers, high-visibility arrows, and danger “X” signs for families (while supplies last).
