Glow in the Dark Lowell is excited to launch the BB (Birthday & Beyond) Club, a special initiative designed to bring a little extra joy to birthdays and meaningful celebrations for children and youth in our community.

Our families can now request a custom cake(desserts) for an eligible celebration.

Submit a request through the GTDL Contact Portal:

When submitting your request, please include “BB Club Cake Request” in the subject section and provide the following information:
• Child/youth’s name and age
• Type of celebration and celebration date
• Preferred cake/treat and flavor, if applicable
• Preferred theme, colors, or design
• Desired message for the cake
• Any food allergies or dietary restrictions, such as halal, no gelatin, nut-free, gluten-free, or dairy-free
• Any other information that may help us with your request

Please submit requests at least 3 weeks in advance (4 weeks recommended).

All requests are subject to our eligibility requirements, program guidelines, and volunteer availability.

Happy First Day of School!

Wishing all the students heading back to school this week a wonderful first day and a successful school year!

Earlier last week, we shared an email inviting families to request a backpack through our Contact Us page. Thanks to everyone who reached out, we were able to deliver about 120 backpacks filled with school supplies to over 50 of our families!

If your family still needs assistance, please leave us a message using the link below. Our team will do our best to get a backpack filled with supplies to you at our earliest convenience.

We are thrilled to share a sweet new initiative for our Special Families that we have been delightfully working on for the last few weeks.

Glow In The Dark Lowell-GTDL will soon be able to accept requests for cakes or desserts for families in need.

We hope this program brings joy, dignity, and, most importantly, a smile to the wonderful families we proudly serve.

More details on how families can request a cake or dessert will be shared directly with the families we serve, very soon.

And while we are celebrating, please join us in wishing our Director, Zeb Khan , a very sweet and happy birthday! 🎉🎂

Dear Readers,

It is with a heavy heart that I share the tragic passing of a community member and mother. This heartbreaking loss also reminds us of the importance of mental health support for caregivers, especially those navigating complex and ongoing challenges.

Raising children is never easy, and raising children with special needs comes with added emotional, educational, and systemic demands. As a parent myself, I continue to experience firsthand the ongoing, exhausting advocacy required within school systems, particularly around IEPs, access to appropriate supports, and the consistent implementation of services that children are legally entitled to under Massachusetts law, leave a lone everything else that families do, day in and day out, for children with special needs.

Many families face even greater barriers, including cultural adjustment, limited support systems, language barriers, racism, and systemic inequities. These challenges can feel overwhelming and isolating.

Glow In The Dark Lowell-GTDL was created to respond to these realities, and we need your support to continue this work.

I invite you to join us, whether as a board member, volunteer, partner, or supporter. Your time, ideas, and resources can help build a safer, more inclusive space for families who need it most.

Please join us in giving our Summer 2026 intern Danielle Bailey a warm welcome!

Message from Danielle:

Hello! My name is Danielle Bailey (she/her), and I am a senior English studies student at UMass Lowell. I have recently begun working with Glow in the Dark Lowell as an intern through UML’s Grant Writing Assistance & Internships for Nonprofits (GAIN) program.
I have also worked as an alpha and sensitivity reader and promoter for independent author Kayla Maurais on her two novels Soul Sucker and Violet Moon. I received my associate’s degree from Holyoke Community College in 2022.
When I am not working, I enjoy listening to music, watching (often delightfully bad!) movies, and spending time with my friends and my senior cat, Luna.
I have always had a passion for social engagement, so GTDL feels like the ideal place for me to grow as an intern this summer. I look forward to learning and making an impact with GTDL!

Elopement Awareness Session!

Calling all families and neighbors to join us for a relaxed, supportive space to connect, learn, and take home helpful tools.

On April 11, 2026. From 9–11 AM

We’ll be having an important conversation about:
What elopement is
Why it happens
How to support our children with safety, and understanding

Light breakfast provided. Free luminous tags, trail markers, high-visibility arrows, and danger “X” signs for families (while supplies last).
