🌟 Partner Spotlight: Robeson County Safe Kids 🌟
This week, we are proud to highlight one of our valued partners in the Robeson Partners in Action Coalition — Robeson County Safe Kids, led by April Oxendine with the Robeson County Health Department.
At our recent coalition meeting, April Oxendine led a powerful Hot Car Demonstration, showing just how quickly temperatures inside a vehicle can become dangerous — and even deadly. ☀️🚗🌡️
This message is especially important as tragic incidents continue to happen across our nation.
Over just 24 hours last week, three children lost their lives in hot cars:
💔 5/20/26 – Fredericksburg, VA – 2-month-old
💔 5/20/26 – Brookwood, AL – 1-year-old
💔 5/19/26 – Los Angeles, CA – 4-year-old
Already this year, at least five children nationwide have died in hot cars.
According to Kids and Car Safety:
▪️ At least 1,177 children have died in hot cars nationwide since 1990
▪️ More than 7,500 children survived with varying injuries
▪️ Approximately 86% of children who die are age 3 or younger
▪️ The majority of cases involve children unknowingly left behind by loving and responsible caregivers
These heartbreaking statistics remind us that this can happen to anyone — and awareness saves lives.
✔️ Always check the back seat
✔️ Place a purse, phone, or shoe in the back as a reminder
✔️ Keep vehicles locked when not in use
✔️ If you see a child alone in a vehicle, call 911 immediately
We are thankful for partners like Robeson County Safe Kids who continue working to educate and protect our community through prevention and awareness. 💚
