In the past 4 months over 128,000 workers have been laid off.
And many more layoffs are to come.
The corporations who sent home the largest number of hard-working Americans in 2026 so far include: Amazon, Oracle, Nike, Snap, Pinterest, Disney, Morgan Stanley, Saks, Target, GoPro, UPS, Washington Post, General Dynamics, Norvartis, and most recently...Spirit Airlines. Good people and jobs. Gone.
Heavily impacted positions include sales, customer support, retail, and service-related roles. And if you fall into any of those categories you're probably still trying to figure out your next move because you are no longer competing with a human for a job.
But there is GOOD NEWS.
While many big corporations are scaling back and eliminating jobs, online sales are ramping up. From January through March of this year, total online sales were up 3.7% compared to the same time last year. By the end of 2026, online shopping is expected to capture 21.8% of all retail purchases. Despite the economic uncertainty people are still shopping online.
And here's the kicker. Approximately 68% of online shoppers confess to making an online purchase based on an affiliate link recommendation, with health and wellness being the #2 niche in affiliate link shopping. This is massive!
Many companies have recently embraced selling by text, social media, and in-person events. This means that selling based on your sensibility and personality is now a reality!
So if you enjoy selling, are in between jobs, and don't mind working on commission until you get the job you really want, then consider giving Affiliate Selling a try!
