The CDC and Alzheimer’s Association would have you believe that Alzheimer’s is the #1 type of dementia.

Although it IS found most often in people living with dementia, in only 25% of cases is it the ONLY pathology going on.

She left me when she forgot how to make Scramble.

Not when she died. Years before that.

My mother had dementia. And long before I lost her, I lost her in pieces, over and over, in ways nobody sends a sympathy card for.

There's a name for this: ambiguous loss. Grief with no clear ending, because the person is still here, but the relationship you had is already gone.

I wrote about what that grief actually looks like — the small losses that pile up before the final one, and why nobody tells you to prepare for them.

Caregivers need a break and if that means sharing a video with your loved one while you take a shower or make a phone call, so be it!

The Alzheimers Foundation of America puts out some pretty cool videos of nature, gardening, travel, even fitness classes!
