Summer is still in effect (even though its slightly cooler this week), and that means..... bugs! Gnats in your face, mosquitoes biting your arms, legs, and spiders setting up shop in your garage. Sometimes a roach may come in your garage looking for nesting place. If you're trying to avoid the use of insecticide sprays which carry harsh chemicals, there is another approach. An effective alternative to repelling and removing bugs in your garage using key essential oils.

DIY Insecticide Spray

A simple insecticide spray with essential oils is highly effective in repelling and killing insects in your garage. This spray can be used on spiders and roaches that are already in your garage. Spiders love to spin their webs in the corners of your enclosed garage, especially around the wires of the automatic door and overhead. Here is a simple recipe:

New 28oz empty spray bottle (or smaller)
3 cups of water (some use distilled water)
15-20 drops Peppermint Essential Oil
3 tbsp Dish Soap

Pour water and dish soap in the spray bottle. Then add your Peppermint essential oil drops in the spray bottle. Shake well.

You can spray this mixture on spiders, roaches, or any other crawly insects. Over time as your DIY insecticide sits in the spray bottle, the mixture becomes stronger. Peppermint Essential Oil irritates the outer shell of of insects like small spiders and roaches and kills them. The high concentration of menthol also suffocates insects' receptors and overwhelms them, making them flee.

With warm rainy days, depending on where you're at, can create breeding grounds for mosquitoes and other insects. Summertime is still in full swing, and that means more insects around, trying to come in your homes, and invading your space at the front or back porch 😅
