In light of the recent emphasis on proper handwashing techniques, I am reminded of a workshop I attended when working at Redwood Memorial Hospital. One of the topics was taking time for self-care at work Enter eye rolling and "ya rights" by a room full of busy nurses! Then the story:a nurse (can't remmeber which hospital she was from) developed the "hand-washng meditation" Yep, everytime she washed her hands she would make it her "me" time. Do you have any rituals or songs you use to let you know it's been 20 seconds? Please share

Hello, and Welcome!
Many of you know that I offer therapeutic bodywork (various styles of massage), but do you also know that my first formal training was Zen Shiatsu acupressure and Asian Healing Arts? These practices were founded in The Five Element System by the ancient Chinese. Under this belief system, all things in the Universe are viewed under 5 categories: -
*Wood *Fire *Earth * Metal * Water
As of late, I have been contemplating the
METAL ELEMENT: relates to immunity
Organs – Lungs and Large Intestine
Large Intestine: focuses on holding on and letting go
Lungs: draws life force (air)in and circulates it thru the body, protects surfaces of the body (including mucus membranes and surfaces of the lungs)
Tissue – skin and hair
Sense organ – nose, smell
Emotion – grief/melancholy
Voice – weeping/crying
Fluid- mucus
Color – white
Flavor – pungent: enters lungs and clears mucus(Keep in mind that some pungent foods and spices are cooling and others warming)
So let’s keep those lungs HEALTHY !!
Cry if you need to, acknowledge any unresolved grief, engage in practices that bring JOY! Get out and walk when you can, breathe in deep full breaths (or other breath work), as always protect yourself and wash your hands 
My most recent practice that brings me joy, a sense of community spirit and works the lungs? YEP 8:00 HOWLING !!
